I read: 3 audiobooks! Honestly I just cbf reading with my eyeballs this month. I was forcing myself for a while, but then promptly reminded myself that I read for JOY and that it shouldn't be a chore. Plus audiobooks mean I can crochet AND read at the same time (pls see slides 2,3 and 4 for my latest creations).

I wrote: After a short hiatus for the sake of my mental health (bb girl is still learning how to cope with rejections), I am back on the pitching wagon! This month I tightened up my written and verbal pitch with the help of @genevieve.nvk from @twelfthdraftliterary and am feeling primed for my next round of pitches in the coming months. Wish me luck 🤞🏻

I'm thankful for: audiobooks being included in Spotify premium and fun events at my local library (slide 5)!

August Recap 💎

I read: 2 books and 4 audiobooks. I really enjoyed the range of books this month, and was super impressed by @jessyzwu epic debut!

I wrote: nothing! Between uni + writing + pitching, my brain needed a little time out. Instead I've been deep into some crochet projects while my subconscious brainstorms book 2.

I'm thankful for: meeting one of my favourite writers @hollygoeslightly at her GC book launch!! Her words of wisdom were exactly what my creativity needed ⚡️

Six weeks into querying and I can confirm that writing a book is way, way, WAY easier than editing, pitching and selling it.

Reminding myself that nothing worth doing is ever easy, and that it's all part of the process ⚡️

In saying that, if you've got any tips for making the submission process easier this lil author is all ears.

July Recap 🔥

I read: 3 books and 2 audiobooks. Stoked that all 5 were home grown Aussie authors!

I wrote: no new words, but I did attend literary speed dating for the first time. Two gentle rejections later, my skin is mildly thicker and I've given my verbal pitch a lil pizzazz with the help of very generous author friends (this community is the BEST)! Thankfully uni has been keeping me busy and distracted, otherwise I may have spiralled into despair. With uni holidays on the horizon, I'm excited to start brainstorming for book #2.

I'm thankful for: therapy, rejection and the kindness of others as I embark on the crazy roller-coaster that is pitching and submissions!

Happy first rejection day to all those who celebrate⚡️

I pitched to two publishers last week as part of a literary speed dating event and got my first official 'no'.

Am I disappointed? Of course. But every no is one step closer to the eventual yes that will see my book on your shelf.

June Recap 🌙

I Read: 3 books and 4 audiobooks. The Correspondent audiobook was 11/10 - highly recommend. Dipped my toes into dark romance and questioned all my life choices. Also @frooomes pls get out of my head. I sobbed and cackled while listening to your memoir.

I Wrote: a pitch!! Officially submitted to three agents and have literary speed dating lined up this month. I also may or may not be brainstorming book #2 👀.

I'm Thankful For: cosy winter vibes, warm drinks, blankets and an overflowing tbr pile.

Full disclaimer that I am obviously learning and am by no means an expert! There are lots of different ways to write & edit & publish, this is just my understanding and experience in Australia. I know other countries might be different. 🫶🏼
