The Prince is a caricature of wealth and arrogance in Swiss elitism. Egocentric, entitled, and self-obsessed, he enters any room (or hotel) owning it.

He would never ask for attention; he takes it. His feather crown mirrors his own image—elevated, untouchable, and royal. The Swiss suspenders twist unnaturally into a choker, tightening around his neck, holding an edelweiss pendant, a quiet symbol of purity. Every movement is exaggerated, turning his presence into an overperformed display of power and self-importance. The space from his entrance is taken by his broad hips, and the swinging fringe boots force grand, heavy steps, demanding attention. The puffy sleeves, inspired by traditional Swiss upper-class wear, are excess volume around him. He isn’t afraid to take up space—quite the opposite. Every step, every glance, every gesture is calculated.

The Prince arrives at the hotel dropping his bags and skis into the snow; someone will run to pick them up. Any encounter should serve him in some way; he might seduce if entertained, but is gone the second he is bored. Like a lion playing with his dinner, it never had a chance to escape. Once caught, he might be amused, but he stays careless and easily distracted, already looking for dessert. Whoever he looks at will be left to rot the moment he loses interest. He pushes limits just to see them break, drawing people in, twisting them to fit his needs. Everything is an experiment, a performance to prove that he can have anything.

He manipulates effortlessly, with this quiet, dangerous confidence, always getting what he wants. No remorse. No hesitation. The Prince is the image of luxury, perfection, and arrogance.

How can a transparent surface challenge the traditional boundaries of what it means to be a painting? Get to know Isabel Peplow, the UK-based artist who is redefining the canvas as a site of multidimensional depth. By working on both sides of a transparent surface, Peplow removes physical limitations of the medium, building intricate layers of paint and textiles that dance between concealment and clarity.

Her practice is deeply rooted in the symbolism of the rising sun and floral forms—motifs that represent new beginnings, opportunity, and a profound sense of optimism. This vision is brought to life on a grand scale in her mural for Cramer St Gallery, where a continuous floral narrative flows through the space, culminating in her signature rising sun. For Peplow, the act of layering is an invitation to look through the work, finding beauty in the complexity of what is both revealed and hidden.
