FULL POEM OF SHORT:
I’m dipping my hands into the sink of last year
I’m washing my face with May, and
brushing my June with teeth
This photo was taken a year ago today,
as I slip July shoes on my feet
I’m dipping my whole body into the lake of each year, each generous loan to me
And I’m scrubbing my face with the drone, candied fruit reflective from sugar, replace my eyes, away from green, away from home,
We are now at August and this last year was my favorite (we couldn’t have known)
This drain is wrapped around my fist, drenched in your bodysuit, shaky palms pruned, your mist in my mouth, I’m home, we’re gone,
And I’ve washed myself over and over to get back to true, back to axiom, back to you,
And I’m scrubbing my face with last June
I’m dipping my hands into the sink of last year’s laundry, my last year of 22
The sink, no longer a sink, surprised I’m still here, no surprises I’ve turned blue
And my bathroom tile never felt so good

I’m trying to look out for where love stays. Loose hay in corners of rooms. Muddy paws, the smell of bleach and dive bars. Isopropyl and vodka. It can be found in the sins of your mother. When she was 17, just moved in. Crack cocaine, blonde blowouts, search for sanctuary up the county line. American flags, extension chords around your neck. Getting dressed up for a party. Farrah Fawcett. Your daughter dying her hair before she left home. Loves electricity. It’s 2026 and we are all folding into each other. Indie pop and all things forgotten. The niche gave birth to more niche and the kids are still upset, still sneaking cigarettes. All on the cusp of the cusp .. or on their way to overdosing. Parenting looks different after the firing squad. Babies look different now that I know I want one. Patience waited for me longer than anyone.

Opium dipped me in that motel pool, lifted me up to the outside “Take her.” I ask “What about my mother?” We are both bathed in it. by @isagnat

Half woman, half four leaf clover
half pleated skirt, Half mars rover

I dream of fly strike and bird shot, but also forgiveness. I give every stray a name and close their eyes. I am believing in a new kind of mercy. Atropine and Epinephrine.
