When our Swiss train stopped due to a malfunction, we had to choose between riding backward to another station or taking a 45-minute hike forward to our destination. Since we love hiking anyway (they can walk for several miles), it was an easy decision. The kids are incredibly adaptable and had an absolute blast, running ahead through the towering Alps and turning a quick mechanical delay into a fun mountain trek. Best travel hack during peak season: use your kids’ jet lag to your advantage 💯

Never in a million years would I have imagined that we would be strolling through Gion, wandering the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, and exploring Fushimi Inari all to ourselves. Before the trip, we talked about getting up early to experience these places before the crowds arrived, but we honestly did not think we would actually pull it off.

If you know our kids, you know they are little explorers who always want to wander off on their own, so being able to let them take the lead and explore at their own pace made the experience even more special.

As it turns out, those early jet-lag wake-ups gave us some of our favorite memories of Kyoto and the chance to experience these iconic places in a way we will never forget. ✨
