Things I wish I knew before becoming a creative/social media marketer:

1. Being good with a camera isn’t enough.
Learning how to market, sell and communicate will take you further than gear ever will.
2. Stop waiting until you feel ready.
Most of the opportunities I got came from figuring things out as I went.
3. Your first price doesn’t have to be your forever price.
Charge what makes sense now, get better, build proof and raise your rates.
4. One-time shoots will keep you busy. Retainers build a business.
The goal isn’t always finding more clients. It’s giving your current clients a reason to keep paying you.
5. Clients care more about results than how cinematic your video looks.
Views, customers, reservations, leads and sales matter more than your transition pack.
6. You don’t need every piece of gear you see online.
Learn how to make money with what you already own before buying the next thing.
7. Your own social media is part of your portfolio.
If you’re telling businesses you can grow their page, start showing what you can do on yours.
8. Learn the business side early.
Contracts, invoices, follow-ups, networking, sales and relationships aren’t the boring part of being a creative. They’re what allow you to keep being one. taken in Austin, Texas by @ishfilms_
