Even Instagram knows at this point how much I love Sahra Ahmed lol (its naturally suggesting her songs)

I spent along time observing - then processing - and now I ask alot of questions (and found that most people really need and appreciate the space to tell their story)

Our stories matter — deeply. They’re not just memories; they’re maps. They guide us, ground us, and remind us who we are.

when i first went to Hargeysa a stranger told me to tell the world what I saw there and what they had been thru. So much for a fun holiday.

I showed up young & naive, on my own, not knowing what to expect but knowing that it should be “home”.

Admist my PAINFUL growing pains, a savior of sorts told me to shape my own way and make the experience of being in the homeland my own. This weekend I was reminded about the importance of remembering who you are and the stories of those that came before you.

Growing up in the diaspora, I was always looking for echoes of my people — in music, in language, in others navigating the same in-betweeness. That quiet hunger for connection that made sense to me is what led me to create Isirka.
It’s more than a podcast or a platform. It’s a space to archive, to reflect, to celebrate, and to belong.
Because when we tell our stories, we remind each other that we exist — fully, beautifully, and in many forms.

Giving space for difference, self-expression and honest reflection will be the only things that really allows us to move forward. I’m more of who im meant to be every year that passes & I’m so appreciative to be happy with that.

All of this to say that, aint nobody built like you- you define yourself AND Amina Isir is outsideee Summer 2025 and @_isirka might be coming back soon. *watch this space*

There are some spaces that live on in our memories forever.

The living room filled with laughter. The sound of Somali music playing long before anyone arrived. The smell of Uunsi wafting through the house. Aunties in flowing diraacs. Plates of buscud and xalwad being passed around. Women singing every lyric by heart, dancing together until late into the night.

Somali Soul: Y2K Edition is our invitation to step back into that feeling.
For one evening, we’re creating a living archive of Somali womanhood—an intimate, ladies-only gathering where music becomes memory, style becomes storytelling, and sisterhood becomes something you can experience together.

ISIRKA presents Somali Soul: Y2K Edition is our love letter to the music, style, and women who shaped us.

For one evening, we’re transforming the room into a living archive of Somali memory—a space where old-school diracs, Somali hits from the 2000s, matcha+ finger foods, and sisterhood come together.

Think of it as the aunties’ house parties we grew up hearing about (or were lucky enough to experience), reimagined for our generation.

This is a ladies-only gathering created to celebrate joy, remembrance, and the enduring legacy of Somali women through the songs that carried us.
