Hotlist Co-founder Adam Neuhaus spoke with IndieWire about the Nonfiction Hotlist’s unconventional approach to audience building and filmmaker support. “The fact that documentarians make a film and then move on to the next thing without bringing any audience with them is wild and crazy,” Neuhaus said. From offering free strategy and feedback sessions through our FRESH EYES INITIATIVE, to challenging filmmakers to build their audience from day one, we are committed to rewriting the rules of what it means to support nonfiction storytellers.

Thank you @indiewire for spreading the word about the hotlist and the filmmakers we champion. Read the article through the link in our bio, and share it with anyone working in the nonfiction space

📢Everyone keeps asking, who is behind the nonfiction hotlist?”

🎬The nonfiction hotlist is a volunteer-led team of 25 producers, filmmakers, commissioners and storytellers who set out to discover what’s possible if we look sideways to each other instead of only looking up to the gatekeepers —-> join us in finding new pathways forward together.

🎥Beyond the Bio: @Isismasoud is a regenerative force that sees possibility where others see obstacles, sees magic where others get tired and knows that the universe is more willing to help those who help themselves and others. She is the force that knows that the smallest tasks can be the unlock for the entire wave of momentum. Where others might just look for the tasks that bring the most glory, Isis looks for the task that is worth doing, and then does it with joy. She is not afraid to share her opinions, not afraid to learn where she doesn’t know and is always looking for the best team outcome. Her positivity is a life force for projects stuck in the desert and her follow thru is relentless and full of integrity. She is stepping into her power so that she might be of greater service to the world around her

The team at @titosvodka and @bandoliermedia - with the help of the hilarious @barnard - came up with an idea full of humor and heart.

And our casting director, @isismasoud found 100 year olds with a sparkle in their eye and a zest for life.

It's not often that I leave a shoot feeling as grateful and inspired as I did on this one.

"Here's to 100!"

Thank you to everyone who lent their talents to make this awesome:

@nonfictionhotlist team member @isismasoud shares her thoughts about the James Beard Award nominated Chinese food docuseries @stcavish.

This series explores Chinese kitchens, culture and history in locations rarely seen in mainstream media. Christopher St. Cavish and Graeme Kennedy have earned their way into these stories through decades of living as expats in China.

Christopher St. Cavish is a food writer, author, and former professional chef who has lived in Shanghai since 2005. Widely respected for his deep knowledge of Chinese cuisine, he is best known for his writing on food culture and his influential Shanghai Soup Dumpling Index. Alongside filmmaker Graeme Kennedy, he co-created the YouTube series in late 2024 that highlights the people, traditions, and history behind Chinese cuisine, bringing these stories to a global audience.

🎬 @nonfictionhotlist team member @IsisMasoud shares her thoughts about the Emmy nominated film Suspending Time featuring New York City principal ballet dancer Tiler Peck, streaming now on PBS.

🩰“the film tracks her life through the loss of her father, her divorce, covid, falling in love, and healing from a devastating injury where she has the potential to lose everything she’s ever worked for. to see how Tiler navigates it all with grace is so incredibly inspiring. The cinematography and choreography are stunning…the determination, clarity, strategy, and grit with which dancers have navigate their careers is culturally wildly underestimated. “

📢 Isis is a multihyphenate that strives to live up to her namesake. She is a casting director, actress, director, and producer. Working in commercials for over a decade, she has collaborated with clients including Apple, Facebook, Visa, NFL, Under Armour, Ancestry, Uber, Disney, CVS, IBM, Hyundai, JP Morgan Chase, SnapChat, Bud Light, American Express, Ally Bank, AirBnb, Dove Google and more. She is the Webby Award-winning director and choreographer of The Last Goodbye. She has choreographed and performed alongside Nas at Radio City Music Hall, appeared in the Netflix series Bloodline and the feature films: Rock of Ages, True Love Blooms and South Mountain to name a few. She believes in the power of storytelling and finding magic in everyday moments.
