“Can you make a ring with four pieces of seaglass?” My immediate thought: …four?! 🫪 I’d never made anything like this before, so naturally, I was a little scared. But honestly, those are my favourite projects. The ones that make me stop, think, sketch something out and figure it out as I go. So I sketched the design on the spot, grabbed my tools, and started building. A little experimenting, a lot of adjusting, and somehow… this beautiful little ocean treasure came to life. 🩵 There’s something so special about making a piece you’ve never made before. You don’t always know exactly where it’s going when you start. If a mermaid had a favourite ring, I feel like it would be this one. ✨🩵🧜‍♀️🌊 A tiny silver shark tooth, a twisty double band, and a labradorite that flashes blue, green and gold when the light hits it just right. ✨ Fun fact: that magical colour shift is called labradorescence- it happens when light interacts with the layers inside the stone. A special collaboration, inspired by a very special whale shark 🩵 To celebrate World Whale Shark Day, we’re incredibly excited to announce a limited-edition collaboration between Maldives Whale Shark Research (MWSR) and Island Lore. Inspired by WS294 Reygandu - the whale shark who features in the MWSR logo - this collection of handcrafted fine-silver pieces celebrates both the beauty of whale sharks and our connection to the ocean. Each piece is lovingly handmade to order by Shanu of Island Lore in Fuvahmulah, an island in the deep south of the Maldives where whale sharks have also been sighted  🦈✨ With only a limited number of pieces available, the collection will be made and sold until every piece has found a home. And there’s an extra special reason to add one to your collection: a minimum of 25% of the proceeds from every piece will be donated to MWSR, helping to support our ongoing work to understand and protect whale sharks in the Maldives.
