Hi guys! I’m Ismail In TechšŸ‘‹šŸ½ Welcome to my channel! Many of you know me as Ismail. And very few might know me from the Ismail in Tech lens. Well, today is the day. I’m starting a new channel called ā€œIsmail in Techā€ and I’d like you guys to follow me here. Although the name change isn’t official yet, I will be using this Instagram page as a spring board since I already have followers. You have probably noticed subtle changes like my updated bio. I’m going to keep my existing pictures so people following me, old and new, can see me in as an authentic way as possible. My job on this page is simple, create content that adds value. In other words, I will be sharing my personal perspectives on tech (AI, etc), business, startups, venture capital; and also take you on a personal journey as I build my own company. I’ve had the privilege of being part of dozens of early stage tech companies, some that became unicorns(1B+ valuation), working in venture capital, and now building my 5th startup (more on it soon, but if you follow me on LinkedIn, you know what we are building!). I want to share every part of that journey with YOU. So for now, those that are following, thank you and for those that will follow moving forward, I look forward to sharing more content that will help you better understand the tech/startup world through my lens. I’m not doing this for any praise, neither will that matter to me at all. I’m doing this because I genuinely love what I do and want to document and share the entire journey with all of you. Let’s get to work! šŸš€ taken in Let's Work by @ismailintech

How to know if your idea is unique and test your assumptions.

1. Go to Google.
2. Type your idea into Google.
3. See all of the companies doing something you think only YOU had the idea for - even type the name you have in mind for it.
4. Ask yourself if it make sense to build or if you should move on to your next idea.
5. Finally, don’t be discouraged, none of the ideas in the world are unique and never thought about, even frontier models in AI. However, it’s the team and idea that executes the BEST that becomes a winning idea.

Taking time to think walk can be super effective as a founder.

Whenever I need to think or get my thoughts out, I walk.

Fridays are no exception, 9am every Friday.

My co founder and I walk to a local coffee shop @bartholomewbakery and talk about wins and challenges during the week.

I highly recommend doing this!

Canada’s Number One Business-Comedy Podcast is back with Ismail Khalil, founder and CEO of ReadyAI, formerly ReadyCAR, an Alberta-born company building AI-powered workflow tools for pharmacies, medical clinics, community hospitals and now vet clinics.

Ish joins Shubh and Philippe at Red Mile Records after driving down from Edmonton at 6AM, matcha in hand, to talk about building ReadyAI from his mom’s basement, working with customers like Rexall, Shoppers and Neighborly, going from early Jobber sales hire to VC to founder, and why more Brown people should probably drink matcha.

Then Ish opens up the future and immediately starts talking about walls.

The guys dig into physical AI, buttonless elevators, restaurant screens, the end of phones, Star Trek, AI risk, sushi orders that never get remembered, Meta’s metaverse pivot, VR skepticism, and eventually Shubh’s practical contribution to the future of humanity: Couch.AI, an AI-powered couch that knows who you are, adjusts to your body, supports your activity, and maybe tells you to stop eating nachos.

Then Ish brings it back to earth with Committee, a fintech idea inspired by South Asian and immigrant community savings circles, auntie networks, e-transfers, emergency funds, wedding money, blockchain, trust, and the very real problem of helping people access pooled capital without getting wrecked by bad actors or predatory loans.

Also:

-Ish explains how ReadyAI is expanding from pharmacies and clinics into vets
-Shubh realizes his entire network is doctors, dentists and medical professionals
- Philippe learns about holdcos
-The guys debate whether the world should become one giant phone
-Shubh becomes weirdly bullish on AI-powered furniture
-Philippe makes it very clear he does not want his couch taking his blood pressure
-Committee gets the kind of reaction Ish probably should have started with.
-The guys accidentally recreate every VC rejection line ever
-Ish heads straight from the pod to Banff to sell to 500 pharmacists.

It’s important to recognize that there were lives lost in the tragedy of 9/11.

The vast majority of us are desensitized to anything unless it happens to us or our family.

The names represent people who lost their lives on that day.

It’s breathtaking how many souls you can feel that passed on that day on ground zero, you can feel it. I could.

Regardless of your beliefs, people still died that day.

Many that had lives, and dreams, and hopes.

All gone - so it’s important to remember.

On my walk to our we work office in New York.

Ridgeway Plaza has become a cultural phenomenon in Mississauga, ON. The food here represents culture from around the world and its top-tier quality can’t be matched. From the carefully crafted ambiance of restaurants to the jalebi stands that make fresh jalebi on the spot, to the coffee and chai spots lined up. Definitely a place worth experiencing. In just a decade and especially since COVID, this place has exploded in popularity.

After I left my previous role in venture capital and before going full time on my startup, I visited Pakistan. I treated this trip like an entrepreneur sabbatical. I was left feeling inspired and ready to build when I got back to Canada. #pakistan #shotonmeta taken in Karachi, Pakistan by @ismailintech

Why did I choose Samrah? Samrah was the one who went with me in the darkest of times, and continues to show me what love looks like. I am so blessed to call her my wife and life partner. Unmarried gents, that are on the fence - put a ring on it! And make sure you find a Samrah in your life, mine is one of a kind. taken in London, United Kingdom by @ismailintech

My parents sacrificed everything to move to Canada šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦

And Canada gave us a reason to stay, live, and thrive.

Founders, it’s no longer ā€œcoolā€ if you’re not in shape.

Your physical, mental, emotional health, and spiritual health all play a vital role in the success of your startup.

Often it’s your physical health that as founders we tend to neglect the most.

As the founder, you are the main driver of a company.

If you go down, it impacts the business a lot more than you think.

So if you can control a few things, control this one the most.

It’s a struggle for all of us sometimes with our schedules, but make the time, go workout.

Your best version is yet to come.
