Say it out loud.

“I will be a _________.”  I don’t fully understand but this has always been in my subconscious since I was a teenager.   It feels so risky, so naked to be putting this out there.   But I heard something the other day from the inventor of Siri called “Verbally Stated Goals.” It’s about continuously striving to do more each year. I felt that.  People talk about “moving in silence” and “speaking into existence” in the same breath. It’s confusing. Yet, I can do both: I can tell you what I’m about to do, then go do it.   Mad religions and spiritual practices talk about the power of the thought and tongue through prayer, meditation, chanting, etc.   Instead of chanting a dead language, here’s a live affirmation:   “I am who I say I am. I am aligned.”   I’ve been baptized by fire; losing, learning and leaving things behind in order to focus what matters. My reasons are bigger than me.

This feels like my real starting point.   Self awareness and mastery are the biggest blessings anyone could have.

A while back @lchapojr, @shizzyshane and I stopped by @linkedinbio_ ‘s crib in LA and tried some VR games he was working on in the garage.

I learned: VR Archery is my ting. Come get this smoke and arrows in ya butt. Squaaa. 🎯

@linkedinbio_ ‘s life sized puzzle game ‘Find Your Keys’ is mad fun bc you can throw huge objects across the room looking for your keys, but it may have you lookin wild foolish when you accidentally sit in someone’s lap irl. Fun at parties.

And lastly, @shizzyshane can’t draw. 😂 •

*LESSONS I LEARNED ON MY 25TH BIRTHDAY*

First, thank you for all the birthday love. When you read this, you’ll see how much it to me.

It was a long day. I was to present a digital strategy to the heads of a multi-billion dollar company at a meeting for one of my clients. Talking about what I know is normal, but the process leading up to it was not at all. This was big for both of us, but I guess the pressure got to them and they let their frustrations and fears out on me...at 3 in the morning...the day of.
I was exhausted, upset and done. I spent a full 24 hours awake to prepare this for them and was about to cut them off because they didn’t seem to understand the process or value of what I implemented for them. I compartmentalized my rage to get the job done.

Then 15 minutes before the meeting started, my grandmother called from Atlanta and sang happy birthday to me.

I fuckin cried.
Yes I need the expletive to convey how I fuckin felt at that fuckin moment.
Undone and open like my nieces shoes.
Her warm voice melted and shattered my anger the way global warming does icebergs.
Grandma’s voice swallowed my attitude and turned me into somebody useful in 60s.
At that moment a couple things became clear:

No amount of money is worth being undervalued or disrespected. Even if the person is a millionaire and their guests run a billion dollar company, there is no such thing as a price tag for respect.
Money means they have *things* it doesn’t *necessarily* mean they have values.
Some people have already made their mind up about you and what you do. You can’t talk them out of that way of thinking. You have to show them. It’s up to you to decide if they are worth the effort.
If something feels wrong, it is. Then think about why it is wrong so you can figure out how to deal with it.

Go be what you were meant to be. Don’t give yourself extra steps, and *don’t* place the steps to success inside of other people.
My biggest fear is that saying what I feel will offend or alienate people. Those people aren’t for me. If I can’t be me, I can’t be free.
Being free is as easy as being yourself.
