My parents bought a summer home in Italy.

Last March, between the missile barrages, I flew with them to finalize the deal, using my broken Italian as an excuse to join when I really just needed to sleep without waking up and running to shelter every couple of hours.

During the trip my body was still tense, waiting for the next alarm. I was full of shame of my privilege of running away. I can’t say it didn’t affect the dynamics between the three of us.

I took my small film camera with me and shot 5 rolls. I couldn’t look at the photos because they reminded me how I felt leaving my husband, friends and the rest of the family to fend for themselves. I hated them and myself.

When I look at them again today, I can see my cynicism, longing and loneliness. The worried look on the face of my parents. But I also find myself more forgiving and understanding, seeing hope and calm within the frames. A life that can be different. by @itaijamshy

On April 8th, the day of the ceasefire, people finally felt free to head out to the beach. In the port of Tel-Aviv many met to fly kites, and I finally felt it's right to go out on walk with my camera.
