WHAT WE CARRY — The Garden

A garden asks us to pay attention to the season we’re actually in. There is a time to plant, a time to enjoy what has bloomed, a time to cut things back, and a time to leave something alone and let it grow.

As the year turns toward fall and winter, gardens grow quieter. Flowers fade. Leaves fall. Some plants die back; others settle into rest. What’s happening beneath the soil becomes harder to see. It takes patience to tend something that offers so little visible evidence of progress.

Most of us have known those seasons. A creative project that isn’t ready. A stretch of caregiving that leaves little room for anything else. A change we’re still finding our way through. A long pause in something we once loved doing.

We can be quick to call those seasons unproductive, especially when we remember being in full bloom. But we don’t have to spend every season producing something for everyone to see. Sometimes we need to replenish what we’ve used up, make room for a different way forward, or let an old expectation go. Sometimes we’re simply tired.

And sometimes the work of one season becomes useful much later.

We carry what we’ve learned: the skills we practiced, the mistakes we made, the patience someone showed us. We carry the influence of people who taught us to sew, plant, cook, paint, build, or notice a possibility where someone else saw very little.

Their work continues in ours. A familiar gesture. A method we still use. An impulse to make an ordinary corner of the world more beautiful.

There are tools in our pockets, and years of learning in our hands. We use both. We pass along what we can. And we remember that tending a garden includes taking time to enjoy it.

So maybe we can allow ourselves a fallow season, too. Less pressure to keep producing. More time to rest and replenish. Something we learned years ago may find its use tomorrow. Something we teach may take root in someone else.

We don’t have to know what will bloom later. We can rest for a while, and leave a little room to be surprised by what grows. by @ithaspocketspro

Meet the newest member of the It Has Pockets! team!

We’re so excited to officially welcome Jamie Stovall to IHPP! Jamie will be taking the lead on children’s programming, content, and projects at IHP, helping us dream up and develop thoughtful, imaginative work created especially for kids and families. And she couldn’t be a more natural fit for it. With a background as both a teacher and children’s pastor, Jamie has spent years working directly with kids - understanding how they learn, what captures their imaginations, how they connect with stories, and how meaningful it can be when children feel like something was truly created for them. She brings that experience together with her creativity, warmth, and genuine love for kids and families, and we’re so excited to have her helping shape this part of IHP from the ground up.

Jamie will also be joining us as co-host of the It Has Pockets! Podcast, bringing her own voice, perspective, humor, and life experience to the conversations we’re having about women, motherhood, creativity, identity, and all the things we carry.

As It Has Pockets! continues to grow, one of the things we’re most excited about is building a team of creative people who bring their own gifts, passions, and points of view to what we’re creating. Jamie brings something uniquely hers to this little company we’re building, and we can’t wait for you to see what comes from it.

Please help us give Jamie a big welcome to IHP! We’re so glad she’s here. #womeninfilm #productioncompany #ithaspocketsproductions #femalepodcast #podcast by @ithaspocketspro

We have a podcast!

We are so excited to officially introduce The It Has Pockets! Podcast - a podcast about creativity, motherhood, and making room for the dreams that still belong to us. It grew out of the same belief that inspired us to build It Has Pockets! Productions: that women shouldn’t have to stop being creative just because our lives are full.

This is a place for conversations about making things. Starting things. Returning to things we once loved. Trying something new. Raising creative kids. Supporting one another’s dreams. And figuring out how creativity and family can exist together instead of always feeling like we have to choose between them.

We’ll be talking with artists, moms, creators, collaborators, friends, and other people with stories worth sharing. We’ll take you behind the scenes of some of the things we’re creating at It Has Pockets! Productions. And we’ll talk honestly about what it looks like to pursue a creative life in the middle of an already very full one.

We’re not doing this because we have it all figured out. We’re still figuring it out, too. And we invite you to join us on this journey of discovery, however messy it may get!

Our teaser trailer Episode 0: “It Has Pockets!” is available now, and Episode 1 is coming soon, when IHPP Founder and CEO Maria Lee and co-host Jamie Stovall will sit down together to tell you a little more about who we are, how all of this started, and why we decided these were conversations worth having out loud.

So if there’s an idea you keep thinking about, a story you want to tell, something you used to love doing, a dream you thought you had put away, or a little piece of yourself you’re wondering if there’s still room for, this show is for you.

The It Has Pockets! Podcast is out now. Listen wherever you get your podcasts, and follow the show so you don’t miss what we pull out of our pockets next. Link in Bio!

The IHP team was out and about again! 🎬✨

On Sunday, a few of us spent the day at the Atlanta Women’s Film Festival, watching some fantastic short films and sitting in on industry panels led by women working across the filmmaking world.

It was a day full of great storytelling, thoughtful conversations, new perspectives, and plenty of inspiration to bring home with us as we continue building It Has Pockets! Productions and developing projects of our own.

One of the things we’re loving most about this stage of building IHP is simply getting out there: watching the work, meeting other creatives, learning from people who are already doing it, and becoming part of the incredibly rich filmmaking community here in Atlanta.

And spending a whole day hearing from and watching films made by talented women? Yeah. That feels pretty on brand for us. 💛

Pre-production work is tough… but somebody’s gotta do it. 😉

The IHPP Les Misérables directing team was out doing a little “research” yesterday as we caught City Springs Theatre Company’s production of Les Misérables, in preparation for our own production with The Front Porch Players, coming March 2027!

So much to take in, talk about, be inspired by, and then make completely our own.

And, of course, the It Has Pockets! team is always happy to be on the scene, supporting Atlanta theatre and soaking up all the creative inspiration we can. 🎭

Next stop: auditions! 👀

It Has Pockets! Productions on the scene again! This weekend, a few of us attended the Women in Production Summit hosted by WIFTA (Women In Film and Television Atlanta) at SCADShow. Informative panels, great networking, and major inspiration and encouragement from all of the work being created with women at the helm. Shout out to Andrew, our Production Coordinator and Gen Z street cred provider, for being there. We're so grateful for the men on our team like him, who have a heart for our mission and vision, want to be a part of changing the landscape of this industry, and understand that helping women thrive helps us ALL thrive!

WHAT WE CARRY - The To Do List

There is always a list. The one we write down. The one in our phones. The one stuck to the refrigerator. And the one that never gets written anywhere because it’s running quietly in the background of our brains all day long.

Make the appointment. Send the email. Pick up the prescription. Sign the form. Buy the birthday present. Figure out dinner. Replace the shoes they’ve outgrown. Schedule the dentist. Remember that thing somebody mentioned three days ago that you promised you wouldn’t forget. Motherhood comes with an astonishing amount of invisible remembering. And sometimes, even when we’ve done twenty things, our eyes go straight to the five things we didn’t get to.

So maybe this is your reminder — and ours — that an unfinished list is not evidence of an unfinished day. Some things got done. Some things didn’t. Some things turned out to matter more than anything that was written on the page.

And on those days when you get to the end and think, “I got absolutely NOTHING done today. Where did the whole day even go?” — try something. Instead of looking at your TO DO list, make yourself a TA DA! list.

Write down everything you actually did that day. The load of laundry you started. The kid you drove somewhere. The phone call you made. The dishwasher you emptied. The problem you helped solve. The email you answered. The groceries you bought. The person you listened to. The thing you cleaned up that nobody else will ever know needed cleaning up. The twelve tiny interruptions you handled while you were trying to do something else.

Write it all down. You may be surprised by how long that list gets. Because so much of what fills our days never makes it onto the TO DO list in the first place. And suddenly that day that felt wasted looks a little different.

TA DA! Look at everything you actually did!

You are always doing more than enough. And tomorrow, there will probably be another list. There usually is.

But for tonight, you’re allowed to close the book.

What We Carry
A short-form series from It Has Pockets! Productions.

Stories worth carrying. Room for what matters.

A few of our team members recently attended the Trilith Foundation's Flourishing Summit, held at Trilith Live in, well, Trilith!!! The 2026 Flourishing Summit brought together researchers, creatives, and community leaders, to explore what it means to live a full and flourishing life. Grateful to @trilithfoundation for creating spaces for conversations like these — and for continuing to champion what it can look like for creatives not just to work, but to flourish. The goals of the summit definitely align with the mission and vision of It Has Pockets! Productions. Saving the date for 2027!

We’ve talked a lot this week about why IHP exists.

But just as important to us as the WHY, is the HOW.

We believe great work can be made without treating exhaustion as a badge of honor.

We believe professionalism and humanity are not opposites.

We believe artists can be deeply committed to their work and also be parents, spouses, caregivers, friends—and people with lives that matter outside of a production.

So what does that look like?

It means trying to create humane schedules instead of assuming the longest possible workday is the most productive one.

It means remembering that childcare, school pickups, aging parents, family dinners and bedtime are real parts of people’s lives—not inconveniences they should have to hide.

It means giving people as much advance notice as possible. Calling only the people who actually need to be there. Protecting time off. Building margin into schedules. And recognizing that sometimes life happens.

It means exploring flexible schedules, shared positions and other ways of working that might allow talented people to say yes when the traditional production model would force them to say no.

It means respecting people’s time as much as we respect our budgets.

It means collaboration over ego. Clear communication over chaos. Preparation over unnecessary sacrifice.

And it means being willing to ask, again and again:

Does it have to be done this way?

We won’t get all of this right immediately. We’re a new company, and part of building something new is experimenting, listening, learning and adjusting.

But this is the culture we want to build.

A place where excellent work and full lives can coexist.

Where someone’s capacity may look different in different seasons—and there can still be room for them.

Where taking care of people isn’t something we do instead of being professional.

It’s part of how we define professionalism.

We want to make stories worth carrying.

As we continue to build and grow IHP, we’ll be sharing a little ongoing web series of videos and musings called WHAT WE CARRY. It celebrates our love of pockets, what they represent for all that women have to carry, both literally and figuratively, for themselves and their people, and our desire to build a better ecosystem in this industry for women, especially moms, built on an understanding of how much we have to hold, and all that we’re trying to carry. #womeninfilm #femalefilmmaker #ithaspocketsproductions #productioncompany #creatives

Yesterday we introduced you to the fabulous It Has Pockets! Team. Now, we’d like to introduce you to some of the projects on our slate that we’re really excited about. Some are moving toward production. Some are still being written and developed. Some involve collaborating with other organizations. And some are little creative experiments we decided to try simply because we had an idea and wanted to see where it went. We can’t wait to share more with you very soon! In the meantime, here’s a little more info about each of the projects so far… #femalefilmmaker #productioncompany #femaleproducer #creativemom #creatives by @ithaspocketspro
