It's been a year since this EP came out 🥲Rom Com wasn't in traditional romantic comedy format. And there was little that was comedic about it. Maybe the comedic part lies in how trivial some of those feelings seem now, feelings that seemed so serious when I was writing about them years ago. I stretched the truth sometimes, and sometimes the truth stretched me.1. Rom Com starts with a situationship. No star crossed lovers here. Donna Says centers on a pair of noncommital lovers that can't quite let go. Logical assessment of the situation points to a clean split, but life and love aren't always so clear-cut. Sometimes things that feel good end up being what's holding you back. And sometimes words don't measure up to actions. Caution, young lovers.2. In trying to get to the bottom of this unhealthy attachment, Rom Com's protagonist looks back to their upbringing. In Take Up, they reflect on their past, and the similarities it has to their present. Ultimately, they muse on what they want their future to be.3. All introspection is forgotten when the warmth of easy loving returns. Sunny Day is a relishing of the good times. When things are good, they're so good, blissful.4. Because things are good, it becomes easier for guards to be let down, for boundaries to be broken. In a way, The Door is a defeat. The gratification of carnal intimacy is only a brief respite before deterring you. Love and infatuation are not to be confused with one another.5. Back Again, the next track, explores how this yo-yo of neglecting boundaries and ignoring reason winds up going wrong. The pleasure becomes pain when it can't be held onto. Something has to change, or the cycle is doomed to repeat.6. Rom Com ends on a triumphant note, as our protagonist is finally able to set themself free. Usually, romantic comedies end with two lovers embarking on an unlikely, but new relationship. Here, however, the protagonist is learning to love themself. Or something like that.Anyways, if you read all this, you're a real gem. Sean and I are getting the band back together for a chance to play these songs again. Plants are coolI learned about this from a video on the fruit/vegetable dichotomyApparently vegetables are just a culinary term, because botanically speaking a fruit is any edible seed-bearing thing produced by a flowering plant (if I'm understanding correctly). I listened to so much daft punk and disclosure growing up before ever realizing I wanted to make music like that. Still learning. It's equal parts fun and scary being this far put of my comfort zone..I'm used to singing jazz standards lol by @itisi.lein
