I’ve been reflecting a lot lately on how much of our lives are quietly disappearing behind screens.
I wish I could say the hours we spend scrolling were filled with something that nourished us. That every time we unlocked our phones, we were learning, creating, growing, becoming more connected.
Instead, so much of our time disappears into social media.
An endless stream of strangers lives stitched together into thirty second moments. We watch babies take their first steps, families on vacation, someone renovating a home, someone grieving, someone laughing. We scroll until we forget why we picked up our phones in the first place.
The hardest part isn’t that it steals our time.
It’s that it steals it quietly.
A minute here. An hour there. Forty minutes before bed. Two hours during a nap. Little pieces of our lives disappearing without us ever noticing.
Maybe screens aren’t what frighten us anymore. Maybe it’s what they replace.
The book we never read. The walk we never took. The conversation we almost had. The silence where we could have heard our own thoughts.
Somewhere along the way, we’ve forgotten what boredom used to give us. It wasn’t emptiness. It was imagination. Reflection. Daydreaming. The place where ideas were born.
Sometimes I wonder how many ordinary moments we’ve traded away for content we won’t remember tomorrow.
How many sunsets have we watched through a screen instead of with our own eyes? How many moments with the people we love have we only half experienced because our attention was somewhere else?
Maybe this is a different kind of grief.
Not only mourning the people and moments we lose, but mourning the pieces of ourselves that disappear unnoticed.
Because one day our hands will remember the things that mattered most. Holding our babies. Wiping tears. Holding the people we love.
But they might also remember scrolling.
Maybe the saddest thing isn’t that an app eats up our screen time.
Maybe it’s that life has never asked for much.
Just to be noticed.

Been a mum for just over 3 months now and here are some things I’ve learned…

I’ve never wanted to be more present in life until now.

Take everyday as it comes and have no expectations.

It’s my job now. It’s my job to protect him and set the foundation for his childhood.

Get outside daily! Baby crying? Go outside. Baby needs a nap? Probably best to go outside.

You will never have it fully figured out and that’s the point.

Being mummy is my favourite title.

Sleeping more than 4 hours at a time doesn’t exist (lol help)

It will test you and test your family.

And yes- we still long for and miss our other children 👼🏼

It is single-handedly the BEST thing that’s ever happened to me.

Eli my man, you’re growing way too fast. I’ve loved every stage up till now, and I know I’ll love every stage to come. You’re the coolest funniest little man ever and I love you so much.
