cherished moments from the opening night of the Sickle Activation in NYC🌙 thank you to everyone for stopping by and offering me the space to share more about Sickle Cell and the collection! the reception so far has exceeded my expectations and I’m immensely grateful! special thanks to the Institute of Black Imagination (@blackimagination) for welcoming me and my community into their space, not only during activation weekend but also throughout my time as an Archive Fellow these past few months

style 1: Sickle Duffle

the bag made for the long weekends and short layovers. constructed with an asymmetrical closure traversing the length of the calf hide. with an adjustable strap attached by branded Italian clips and rings, the 50cm duffle bag can be slung across the shoulder, held in hand, or thrown under the arm. the interior includes a separate shoe compartment and is fully lined with a signature sickle pattern, quilted in silk-satin.

the Sickle Duffle will be available in Ebene and Noir this Tuesday, 11//11 on bamidele.co and in-store at Space 001 (@blackimagination) this weekend (11/13-11/16)

Sculpted resilience🌙 11/11

A collection of four enduring silhouettes, reinterpreted through quiet imbalance. Their forms draw from the irregular elegance of the sickle cell and the branching constellations of the body’s circulatory map — shapes born from survival and soft resilience. Each piece is hand-crafted from full-grain calf hides sourced from the storied French tannery Remy Carriat (@tannerieremycarriat), and finished with custom Italian hardware cast to feel like jewelry — weight, intention, permanence.

The Sickle collection arrives on November 11 at Bamidele.co, and in-store at @blackimagination in New York City on November 13.

Artwork and Color Design by Bamidele for the Sickle Cell Disease Foundation of California’s Camp Gibbous, an annual overnight camp for teens and young adults living with Sickle Cell Disease

Couldn’t volunteer in person this year but honored to be able to support the Foundation with hoodie and t-shirt designs for the campers and staff! This year’s theme was “Freshman Year” where campers got an early university experience on an actual college campus! Inspired by an image of red blood cells at 7000X magnification and captured via a scanning electron micrograph (SEM), the artwork is accented with pillars of health, education and awareness.

See you this afternoon for another round of Office Hours with IBI Archive Fellow, @itmightbebami!

Each week, Bami will shares deep cuts and B-sides–research that delves into the “source code” of creativity, via The Holder and Talley Collections.

First Up… the expansiveness of artistic practice. Double-tapping on the confluence of fine arts and culinary arts… both Geoffrey and Salvador Dali published cookbooks in the same year, 1973 (Dali’s cookbook is in The Holder Collection).

Titles like “Mother’s Fruit Cake” (Holder) vs. “The Tripe of Yesteryear” (Dali), mirror their individual artistic intentions and expressions– impressionism and surrealism, respectively.

We are excited to announce that designer and researcher, Bamidele “Bami” Aleshe (@itmightbebami) has been selected as our inaugural Archive Fellow at the Institute of Black Imagination!

A researcher in the field of molecular biology and genetics, Bami has crafted a niche within the space of art, design and science communication by creating a range of wearables, accessories and art objects inspired by life sciences.

This fellowship grants Bami full access to the archives of esteemed artists Geoffrey Holder and André Leon Talley to conduct visual and literary research on topics of both personal interest and related to the research, design and product development practice, BAMIDELE.

Each week Bami will be publishing a reflection of notable findings and connections, highlighting the importance of research and translation as a pillar of practice.

Starting this week, he will be hosting office hours at the Institute’s Space 001 in NYC every Wednesday 4p-6p ET with a rotating selection of literature from the archive for people to stop by, engage with and discuss with him!
