ITPS Canada Founder Giorgio Clementi Named to @canadasaviationhalloffame (CAHF) Class of 2027

Recognition Honours Contributions to Aerospace Education, Flight Testing and Technological Innovation

ITPS Canada is proud to announce that its founder, Executive Chairman and Chief Technology Officer, Giorgio Clementi, has been named to Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame Class of 2027, recognizing his outstanding contributions to Canadian aviation, aerospace education and technological innovation.

An internationally recognized experimental test pilot, aerospace entrepreneur, engineer and educator, Clementi established ITPS Canada in 2001 and subsequently developed two internationally respected institutions: the International Test Pilots School (ITPS) and the International Tactical Training Centre (ITTC). Together, these institutions have attracted pilots, engineers and military aviation professionals from around the world to Canada for advanced flight test education and tactical training.

Under his leadership, ITPS has also become a postgraduate degree-granting institution, offering Master of Science degrees in flight testing and flight test engineering.

Clementi’s commitment to aerospace innovation has led to the development of advanced research and training aircraft, including the Adaptive Handling Qualities Aircraft, the 5th Gen Surrogate Training Aircraft (5STA) and the Advanced Controls Evaluator (ACE). More recently, ITPS has introduced COGNITIV6, a pioneering application of artificial intelligence and machine learning to flight testing, pilot performance assessment and advanced aviation training.

For our clients, the strength of advanced aerospace training comes down to more than aircraft, simulators and technology. It depends on the depth of expertise behind the instruction.

At the International Test Pilots School, our instructor team is made up of experienced test pilots, flight test engineers, academics and subject matter experts with deep operational and technical expertise. Their collective experience spans flight testing, aircraft systems, advanced controls, simulation, human factors, data analysis and aerospace research, giving students access to instruction that is both technically rigorous and directly relevant to the challenges they will face in modern flight test programs.

The team includes five doctorate-level instructors whose research, engineering, and operational experience further strengthens the depth of instruction available to our students.

🍁 Celebrating Thanksgiving, Canadian Style! 🇨🇦
Thanksgiving in Canada is a tradition rooted in gratitude, community and the celebration of the harvest. Officially recognized as a national holiday in 1879, it has been celebrated on the second Monday in October since 1957.

At ITPS Canada, Thanksgiving brings our students and staff together to share Canadian traditions, enjoy good food and celebrate the people who make our international community unique.

During our gathering, Dave Lohse, CEO of ITPS Canada, shared the history and significance of Canadian Thanksgiving, tracing its evolution from early harvest celebrations to a national tradition of gratitude. For our students and staff from around the world, his address offered insight into Canadian culture and the importance of appreciating the opportunities, experiences and relationships that bring us together.

The occasion also provided an opportunity to recognize an important achievement at ITPS Canada. Giorgio Clementi, Executive Chairman and Chief Technology Officer, presented members of the multidisciplinary Advanced Controls Evaluator (ACE) jet team with special commemorative coins. The presentation recognized the combined expertise, dedication and collaboration of the engineers, pilots, maintenance professionals and technical support personnel whose contributions made ACE's successful first flight possible.

As ITPS Canada continues to advance aerospace training through innovation and operational excellence, gatherings like these remind us that our greatest strength is the people behind our achievements.

Qualitative Evaluation is where flight test knowledge becomes judgement.

Our EASA Category 2, Master of Science in Flight Test Engineering and US Industry Hybrid flight test students recently took to the air in the Grumman HU-16 Albatross, applying their training to an aircraft very different from those they routinely operate.

The objective is not simply to fly an unfamiliar aircraft. Students must rapidly understand its systems and characteristics, develop an effective test strategy, prioritize limited airborne time and assess the aircraft against defined operational requirements. That demands adaptability, disciplined observation and sound technical judgement.

The HU-16 is an exceptional platform for this training. Its large airframe, twin radial engines, amphibious configuration and handling characteristics challenge students to adapt their techniques and broaden their frame of reference as flight test professionals.

Qual Evals bring together academics, test planning, aircraft systems knowledge, flying qualities assessment and post-flight analysis in an operationally relevant exercise.

Exposure to different aircraft develops more capable evaluators. And that breadth matters when the next aircraft under test may be unlike anything they have flown before.

As the sun sets over ITTC, the mission continues.

Changing light and weather are part of the operational environment, reminding us that readiness is built in real-world conditions. Based in North Bay, ITTC benefits from a demanding, operationally relevant setting where weather, seasons, and expansive Canadian airspace all contribute to realistic tactical training.

Every aircraft on our ramp represents more than training capability. It reflects a long-term investment in sovereign capability, operational preparedness and the ability to prepare aircrew for the demands of modern defence.

At ITTC, pilots develop the skills, judgment and readiness required to operate in complex military environments. Together, our aircraft, instructors, systems and training approach help strengthen defence readiness for Canada and its allies.

A different aircraft. A different set of characteristics. The same disciplined approach to flight test.

Qualitative Evaluation is an important part of developing competent and safe Test Pilots and Flight Test Engineers at the International Test Pilots School.

Flying an unfamiliar aircraft requires students to quickly build an understanding of how it behaves, identify its defining characteristics,

assess handling qualities and workload, and communicate those observations with technical precision.

That is why exposure to different aircraft matters.

The @jetaircraftmuseum's Canadair CT-133 Silver Star "Red Knight" provides an exceptional opportunity to step outside the familiar and apply flight test methodology to a classic jet aircraft.

The objective is not simply to fly another type. It is to develop the ability to observe, question, compare and evaluate with discipline, sound judgment and a strong safety mindset.

Each new aircraft adds another reference point, another set of handling characteristics, and another opportunity to build the adaptability and technical confidence required to evaluate increasingly advanced aerospace systems.

ITPS Canada introduced ACE to the global flight test community at @xtestpilotsociety 70th Annual Symposium in Anaheim, California.

Giorgio Clementi, Executive Chairman and Chief Technology Officer, and Bennett Leong, ACE Project Lead, presented the journey of the Advanced Controls Evaluator (ACE) from concept and engineering through simulation, flight test preparation and first flight.

But ACE is about much more than variable stability. It is the first of several advanced aircraft that will progressively form the core of our instructional fleet as we make fly-by-wire aircraft integral to the ITPS training environment. It represents a transformative step in how ITPS trains the flight testers of tomorrow—bringing digital fly-by-wire, advanced control laws, state-of-the-art cockpit HMI and in-flight simulation into an operationally relevant jet training environment. ACE will allow students not only to experience different handling qualities, but to evaluate the control laws (CLAWS) that create them, while operating in the speed, energy, workload and time pressures of a jet.

Integrated into the syllabus with the advanced HMI already introduced in our 5STA Hunter, engineering simulation, and our COGNITIV6™ AI/ML capability, ACE is part of a broader transformation of flight test education at ITPS.

Dave Lohse on Leadership, Growth, and the @bdc_ca Growth Driver Program

Dave Lohse, Chief Executive Officer of ITPS Canada, was recently featured in a video produced by BDC and @iveybusiness, highlighting his experience alongside other Canadian business leaders at the BDC Leadership Retreats.

The program brought together a diverse cohort of leaders to step back from daily operations and focus on long-term strategy, governance, and growth. As Dave shared, the retreats offered "an excellent structure and time to step outside the company's daily routine to reflect on the big picture."
