Nicole Zhang at AGWA Attachment Styles We are thrilled to share that our represented artist Nicole Zhang’s The preparation (2024), acquired by the Art Gallery of Western Australia from her 2024 solo exhibition at CBD Gallery, is now on view in Attachment Styles. Her debut solo exhibition, Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow, was supported by Art Incubator, with Nicole selected as a 2024 grant recipient. Based in Sydney, Nicole explores the emotional complexity of everyday life through figurative painting. In The preparation, figures come together to prepare a meal, yet each remains absorbed in their own task. The painting offers a quiet reflection on togetherness and individual worlds. Bringing together art from the 19th to 21st centuries, Attachment Styles, co-curated by Rachel Ciesla and Robert Cook, explores intimacy, belonging and the tensions that shape our relationships with one another. Attachment Styles: Modes of Belonging in Modern and Contemporary Art Show runs until 2 May 2027 Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth Cultural Centre Pictured: Nicole Zhang The preparation, 2024 Synthetic polymer paint on canvas @its.a.picnick @artincubator @cbdgallerysyd @artgallerywa Photo credit to @aileenzhong22 , install view at CBD Gallery credit to @docqment #cbdgallerysydney #nicolezhang #AGWA #australianartist australianar by @its.a.picnick
Turps part 1️⃣ So so grateful for these past two months at the Turps summer intensive 🌞 A massive thank you to @turpsbanana for having me and for the generosity of @artincubator and @jonathan_watkinson for making it happen 🙏 Still processing all the rich wisdom imparted by all the wonderful mentors, @virginiarverran @scott_mccracken_ @matt_lippiatt @katrinablannin @karolinaalbricht @anselkrut, guest artists and peers who have truly helped foster a space to experiment, share life and painting. It will be strange not spiraling up and down the ramp, punching in the studio codes, swapping stories and biscuits, having impromptu peer counselling, dinners and dancing✨ Not sure what the future holds but excited for the ride nonetheless 🎢 Coming away with my cup full 😌💗 @tinana_art @stevenedwardrobertson @emiliamomen @mxntdd @cstroebelart @ludileiva @camilacandiab @sibyllelaubscher @guljaholland @maysalmoosawi @niah_mcgiff @ryzbee @__under_new_management__ @claireprouv_studio @shooqalshawi @paperainbows Thanks @sibyllelaubscher for the lovely portrait 💖 by @its.a.picnick
We are thrilled to congratulate our represented artist Nicole Zhang on becoming the inaugural recipient of the Art Incubator International Residency Award. This significant new award supports an emerging Australian artist to undertake a two-month residency at Turps, London, fostering artistic development, international connections, and meaningful creative exchange. The award is generously supported by Jonathan Watkinson-Hall in memory of Scott Watkinson-Hall, making this remarkable opportunity possible for the next generation of Australian artists. @artincubator @its.a.picnick Zhang’s practice draws on the language of contemporary figurative painting, weaving together personal narratives with intimate observations of people, relationships, and the spaces they inhabit. Through quiet everyday moments, her paintings reveal emotional depth and a sense of the profound within the ordinary. Nicole held her debut solo exhibition supported by Art Incubator, Yesterday Today Tomorrow, at CBD Gallery in 2024, followed by our presentation at Sydney Contemporary 2025, where she was also a finalist in the MA Group Art Prize. Nicole was also selected as a finalist in the 2026 Mosman Art Prize, marking another exciting milestone in her growing career. @sydneycontemporary @mafinancial__ @mosmanart Featured work: The Petition, 2025, Acrylic on Canvas, 102 x 121cm The Preparation II, 2026, Acrylic on Canvas, 120 x 200cm Read Australian Financial Review article about the Art Incubator International Residency Award via the link in bio.
