Crucial Times Fest raised over $2,000 for immigrant and refugee aid, gathering bands willing and ready to condemn ICE on camera. Artists from It’s A Setup to Iabsorbyourstatic and Portland’s Lab Rat filled the room with energy, snd spoke to the importance of community. A highlight of the bill was Downcast from Goleta, CA, who formed in the 80’s and reunited in 2015 after about a 10 year hiatus. “We felt it was time to get back out there and express ourselves a little bit more politically,” lead vocalist Kevin told us.

Community and solidarity were in no short supply at Crucial Times Fest, where bands turned up to take a stand against fascism and use their platforms for good.

Spokane-based It’s A Setup’s frontman Hayes Noble took time during their set to address the dangerous precedent of the Spokane 3 Verdict. “In these tighter-knit communities, they’re able to pick us apart from the top down,” he told us. “It’s hard to be a punk in mid-sized cities in America,” said Brett Noble of the event’s host 221 Press. “It’s these second cities and smaller towns where punk rock is always in its truest form,” Hayes adds. “You can do this anywhere, and you should do it everywhere.”

Following the Spokane 3 verdict, which saw anti-ICE protestors convicted of federal conspiracy, the city’s hardcore music scene turned out to Crucial Times festival. Organized by 221 Press, the event brought together bands from as far away as California, and helped raise over $2,000 for Spokane-based groups providing aid for immigrants and refugees.

GIANT PALOUSE EARTHWORM PRESENTS:
.
SUNDAY EVENING SERVICE IN THE CHAPEL OF MINCE
.
End of weekend vespers are to be offered this September 6 at the Kenworthy Backstage Speakeasy. Fulfilling the triumvirate, the Bay Area's own Grindcore missionaries, the MORMON MINCERS, return for their third proselytization assignment on the Palouse. The Spokane parish will supply the colloquy with DIY teleological representatives. Punk priests in POISE will extrapolate the d-beat eschatology with profundity. PV iconoclasts, IT'S A SETUP, offer a bass driven epistemological perspective for those pernicious skeptics. Death Metal deadites of TORN OPEN have been elected to organize an ontology of ossuaries and odor mortis en perpetua. Such an underground synod comes only once per epoch. Do not miss your opportunity to evince such defining ecclesiastics.

Jeff Cost’s review of the It’s A Setup 7” is in this week’s Maximum Rocknroll update. “IT’S A SETUP keeps things blunt and right in your face. It’s not the heaviest record ever made, or the fastest, or the screamiest, but it sits in a really good spot that’s fucking infectious” Pick it up now via @ebullitionrecords mailorder and other stores and distros that carry rad shit!
