Week 15/17
The miles are getting shorter, the marathon is getting closer, and it’s feeling way too real.

After months of building mileage, long runs, and learning to push and when to pull back, I’m officially in the taper. The biggest miles are behind me, and now it’s time to trust the work I’ve put in.

This week looked a little different as I’ve been feeling under the weather. It’s a reminder that training doesn’t always go perfectly, and sometimes the best thing you can do is listen to your body, prioritize recovery, and give yourself some grace.

Trying to remind myself that I don’t need to do more at this point. The work is done. Now it is time to recover, trust my training, and get excited about what’s ahead and focus on getting healthy.

26.2, I’m coming for you.

This is my love letter to Reeds Lake.

Reeds Lake has seen countless miles, early mornings, late nights, and frantic afternoon runs before work. It’s seen easy miles, challenging runs, long runs, and everything in between.

To my safe place, the spot I will always come back to.

This route has been where the majority of my training blocks have taken place. It’s where I’ve worked through challenging days, celebrated good ones, cleared my head, and spent a lot of time being present with myself.

The 4.2 mile loop has become so much more than a running route to me. It’s familiar, comforting, and somehow always exactly where I need to be.

As this marathon training block comes to an end, I’m feeling extra grateful for all the miles, memories, and little moments this place has given me. taken in Reeds Lake by @its.active.ali

👟Lacing up for the last long run👟

The last double digit long run of the training block leading up to the Detroit Marathon.

I honestly don’t even know how to put into words how I am feeling right now. Part runner’s high, part emotional, part “wait… is this really almost over?” And yes, I’m literally crying writing this.

This training block has been such a HUGE part of my life for the last 17 weeks. So much of my life has revolved around this race; the miles, the long runs, the recovery, the planning, the excitement, the doubt, the exhaustion, and everything in between.

I’m proud, I’m grateful, I’m a little sad, and I think I am still trying to process that the marathon is actually right around the corner.

Maybe I don’t need to know exactly how I feel yet. I think I just need to let myself be in it for a little while.

One more “long” run. Then we taper. taken in Reeds Lake by @its.active.ali

I’ve never been someone who pays much attention to body composition, but lately I’ve found myself really curious about how my body is responding to this marathon training block.

I’ve been running 4 days a week since last December, consistently strength training at The Yard since May, and prioritizing recovery and PT along the way. It’s been A LOT of movement, and I wanted to see how my body was adapting.

I took an InBody scan a few days ago and was honestly really happy with the results:

121.1 lbs
55.3 lbs skeletal muscle mass (highest it’s been since January)
21.9 lbs body fat mass (lowest it’s been since January)
18.1% body fat (lowest it’s been since January)

But more than the numbers, I’m proud of what they represent: consistency, strength, recovery, and months of showing up for myself. It also represents the times I listened to my body, took a rest day when I needed one, and prioritized recovery when pushing through wasn’t the answer.

Body composition is just one small piece of the picture, and these numbers don’t define my progress. But today, I’m letting myself be proud of the progress I’ve made and the work that got me here.

Remember, months of showing up is greater than one day of perfection. by @its.active.ali

Week 12/17
This week looked a little different than the plan I originally had written out, and honestly, I’m learning that it’s okay.
I started the week with an 8.5 mile long run, got in a 6 mile easy run Tuesday, and made it to TYG for an upper body day. I then headed to San Francisco for a few days.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday ended up being rest days. After some rough travel days and everything going on, I realized I really needed to slow down and let my body rest.

And this is something marathon training has been teaching me over and over again: I don’t have to follow the plan perfectly for the training to be working.

Resting doesn’t mean I’m falling behind. Missing a run doesn’t erase all the work I’ve already put in. Sometimes listening to my body and giving it what it needs is the most productive thing I can do.

I’m learning to be okay with changing the plan when I need to. Honestly, that might be one of the biggest lessons I take away from this whole training cycle.

ONE MONTH OUT. 🥹🏃🏼‍♀️
I’ve had this on my mind since last December. To run my first ever marathon.
The girl who signed up for this marathon in January would be SO proud of where she is now.
I don’t think I realized how much running would become a part of who I am.
There were days I questioned myself. Runs that didn’t feel great. Tired legs. Days I had to skip runs because I wasn’t feeling well. Days I wondered if I was actually capable of completing a marathon.
But when I look back on these 17 weeks, I think it’s less about the training itself and more about all the little moments I experienced along the way.
The late night runs. The post-run feeling of accomplishment and gratitude. Discovering new routes. Running the ones that feel like home. The quiet moments where it was just me, my thoughts, and the road.
Running has become my safe place.
This marathon is about SO much more than 26.2 miles. It’s made up of every mile that came before it. Every early morning. Every long run. Every run I didn’t think I could finish. Every time I showed up when it would’ve been easier not to. All of those miles shaped me and helped prepare me for this race.
I don’t know exactly what race day will look like. I don’t know how it will go or how I’ll be feeling. And honestly, I don’t think I’m supposed to.
I need to trust the process, show up, give it my all, and above anything else, ENJOY the moment.
Everyone asks me what my goal finish time is. And to be honest, my goal is just to finish.
Strava currently predicts a 3:45 marathon, which is really cool to see after all the work I’ve put in, but I’m not going to put that expectation on myself. This will be my first time ever running this far AND my first marathon in a race setting. I don’t want to put any more pressure on myself than to enjoy it and finish it.
I will be proud of myself no matter the outcome because getting to that starting line will already be something I once only dreamed about.
And I can’t wait to run it with my parents there to watch me accomplish this huge goal of mine. 🥹
One month.
