Be honest — what’s YOUR $9.99 trap? 👀

What actually made me go back and add these up: I was building the spreadsheet for this whole content series and kept seeing the same $9.99 charge pattern from my own bank history, over and over, months apart.

A detail I didn’t mention: most of these purchases waited months before we actually bought them. We don’t do “no regrets” spontaneously — we do it after living with the idea for a while first.

💰One thing I didn’t get into in the video: this number isn’t one account. It’s spread across retirement, regular savings, and what’s tied up in our house equity.

💳I think people picture one giant number sitting in a bank app, and it’s honestly never looked like that for us. Its pieces, in different places, added up.

🛑💳 Funny enough, my husband and I never sat down and “agreed” on this rule out loud. It just quietly became something neither of us ever questioned.

👫We didn’t even realize how deep it ran until we were house hunting and both said, separately, “we’re not doing this without at least 50% down.” Same instinct, two different childhoods behind it.

The account I mentioned today? I didn’t open it on purpose — my first employer just auto-enrolled me, and I almost opted out because I thought it meant less money in my paycheck 😅

It took me finding an old 401(k) statement in a drawer, years later, to actually sit down and learn what I was looking at.

Small tip if you’re in the same spot: log into your account today and just look. That’s step one.
