Another year of community, culture, and connection wrapped!A huge thank you to our amazing instructor @rifasrhythm for sharing her Caribbean culture with us through movement. And deep appreciation to everyone who braved the weather to move and celebrate with us this holiday season. The energy in the room was pure island warmth, and your presence helped make this night truly special. We’re also proud that proceeds supported our 2025 partner @urbanuniversityoakland, an org that empowers single mothers and families in Oakland through workforce training, mentorship, and community programs. 🥁🥁🥁Throughout our Cocoa Crawl week of festivities, together we raised $7,335.Love and joy to you and yours this season. 1- We don’t wear shoes in our home, but please believe if you visit, I’ll never shut up about how thee Angela Davis, Romarilyn Ralston, Rev. Deb, and Courtney Hanson christened my new rug at our 30th Anniversary celebration for California Coalition for Women Prisoners. You’re probably wondering why the *exact* same picture’s posted twice on that first slide, but it’s actually pushup queen Courtney and me prepping for the big night on top, and our decades long inspo and speakers on the bottom.2- Supportive friends, love letters, performances, your favorite emcees, and living legends3- a gorgeous and deeply felt ofrenda fastened by Vrindivani 4- a midday Sumud Mural tour around the corner for liberation5 - Our perfect closer SoLauren and CCWP fam at the Feedom and Movement Center morning after. Shoutout to my inside-outside prison bookclub co-leads who I met in person for the first time!!6- the traveling “Together We Rise, Together We Heal” Reproductive Justice quilt, marking my first act with CCWP two and half years ago.7- a star is born8 Dr. Angela Davis and me hypnotized by the Dancing Through Prison Walls performances9 - THE CREW. Definitely not posting a birthday roundup in spring. That'd be wild. You're definitely not seeing the Lakeshore series finale with our Christmas card sneak peek 48 hours before we moved, or the transition to our new home (sound on for number seven).Hosting birthday brunch with a couple dozens friends who joined me for a holiday community bike give back with @lspcmovement wouldn't possibly be posted now. Neither would the holiday party with @c_c_w_p writing to comrades on the inside. Maybe someone snuck in the fundraiser our @cocoacrawl crew celebrated with @peoplesprograms. Joy, rhythm, and community powered $916 in ticket sales on Friday for a night to remember! Rain was out in full force and y’all still pulled up for our weekend opener, an Afro dance class for People’s Program. A special thanks to our amazing choreographer, Chrystal Moore (@chrystalleyezed) who kept us relaxed and high energy the full hour. And shout out the folks who bought multiple tickets for themselves, bought tickets of state, and bought tickets **out of country** just to support. Your contributions fuel People's Programs, empowering Oakland through grassroots initiatives led by Black youth. This is what it means to celebrate Black joy and culture in The Town. She’s a member and co-captain of the all women’s hip hop team, Groove Generation, and member of the coed competition team, A Tribe Called Groove. This year, she’s on the leadership team on the multiple award winning, Diaspora Dance Group for the Black Joy Parade!
