On World Ozone Day, we’re asking a question that goes beyond the sky above us: what happens when the places we live in become hotter, drier and harder to survive in?

The fifth track from the Climate Emergency Mixtape is here. Veppa Marathadiyila by Sollisai Sistahs is a Tamil-Kannada multilingual folk-rap fusion about Bengaluru’s changing climate, where disappearing lakes, groundwater extraction, tree loss, heat, floods and water scarcity are becoming harder to ignore. The track also asks who gets to escape the crisis.

Sollisai Sistahs, Tamil Nadu’s first all-women rap crew, use hip-hop as a voice for resistance, identity and change. Their music celebrates culture, sisterhood and community while challenging social norms.

The Climate Emergency Mixtape brings together six independent artists from across India, using hip-hop to make climate conversations local, personal and culturally rooted.

Youth Ki Awaaz, in partnership with Asar and Krantinaari, alongside Folksoul and Climate Culture Collective, is bringing these artists together to turn climate realities into rhythm and stories that can travel beyond the usual climate conversation.

Some songs don’t just get heard. They start conversations. 🎶

After hearing “Veppa Marathadiyila” by Sollisai Sistahs, Tamil Nadu’s first all-women rap crew, 𝗠𝗿. 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗸𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵𝘆, Rajya Sabha MP from Tamil Nadu, invited the artists to his residence to talk about music, culture and climate change.

For the artists, the song became a way to connect lived experiences with climate research and take their stories into new spaces.

This is the intention behind the Climate Emergency Mixtape: to use music and culture to make climate conversations more personal, relatable and rooted in lived experiences. 🌍🎤

Let the music start the conversation. What climate stories do you want to hear?
