@commandtalktome you did it again! This was a wonderful opportunity.🙌🏾✊🏾

Y’all… the creativity? The storytelling? The HISTORY? 🔥 These students really brought Charlotte’s Black infrastructure to life Lego by Lego inside the James B. Duke Memorial Library. Every build had intention and the students presented with so much passion and pride!

I’m so grateful my colleagues saw it fit to bring me on as a judge. It’s always an honor to witness students blending civic engagement, politics, and culture in such a hands-on way.

Come check out their work on display at the @charlottemuseumofhistory for Black History Month next Saturday, February 28th. 🫶🏾

Communication isn’t just WHAT you say, it is HOW you build culture, tell stories, and create opportunity.🙌🏾

This past Saturday, my communication management students and I took a field trip to The Mint Museum’s Careers in the Arts Fair to show them the endless ways their communication studies degrees can open doors.

Representing Charlotte’s HBCU @jcsuniversity + diversifying outlooks. Proud professor moment🤍

Thank you @themintmuseum for creating this space!

Work work work is all we seem to do around here…but…as long as it’s for you, it’s all good! Great collaboration between professors Brown, Corbett and student scholar Jade Alford! And as always, happy to see young Professor Corbett in the mix. The MisEducation of Black and Brown Women was a hit and graciously received. Fellas, we got you, we just need to make sure all our ladies can sit at the tables first, or build their own. #conferenceseason #community #studentengagement #hbcu #roadtrip #blackprofessors #femaleempowerment #communication by @its_profbrown

@jcsu_prssa is here and I am so grateful to all of the students that showed up for the Interest Meeting.🎊🙌🏾 I am excited and honored to advise this group.🥹

Special thanks to all of the @prsacharlotte members who attended and led us in understanding what PRSSA is and how PRSA has aided in their career development! We are excited to partner with @center360 for internship opportunities as well. 🎊

💌 Students, there is still time to join PRSSA, contact me via email to be added to the list for updates on the next meeting!

As a former student leader, I know how important it was to see faculty and staff beyond the classroom supporting the things we did.💛💙

I had the opportunity to work the last party of Welcome Week with my colleagues and I enjoyed having some fun with our students! (S/o to the Student Affairs team🙌🏾)

College days swiftly pass and while academics will always be at the forefront, what they do beyond it means so much to their experience! (Check the statistics)That ✨BALANCE✨ is important!

Spent some time in Chicago for the @nabjofficial Convention and Career Fair🙌🏾

My students, colleagues, and I enjoyed the sessions, networking, encouragement, and professional development.

Not gonna yieee, I am so excited to use what I’ve learned to co-advise JCSU’s on campus chapter.🙂‍↔️💛💙

For more about NABJ, follow @nabjofficial and check out their website!

For my Charlotte folks, your opportunity to engage with local professionals in journalism, communications, media, etc. is through @caabj_info 🙌🏾

JUNE 18, 2024 - As I was visiting @dukeuniversity, I came across #thebooth…while in the Duke Chapel, hence my whispering voice.😂 ✨ (Ignore my facial expressions I was thinking and it felt like 100 degrees walking through the campus that day.😭)

Essentially, they are booths set up throughout the campus to capture stories of visitors based off of different prompts.

My prompt was: Tell your life story in 2 minutes.

I wanted to share this snippet because I have a passion for storytelling and truly believe that we cannot lose our “recipes”. Storytelling can be found in every civilization and in all walks of life. As I grow older, I find myself reflecting on two things consistently: legacy + storytelling.

If you had to tell your story in 2 minutes, what is something that you need to say?

JUNE 28, 2024 —

I closed the door to my study at the National Humanities Center for the last time.✅

Working alongside so many amazing scholars from around the nation was amazing. Each of our projects reflected passion, curiosity, and understanding. I enjoyed my time getting to know my peers and their research interests. They have helped me conceptualize a lot in this past month and it was an honor to have the opportunity to discuss my research interests as well.

My time at “the center” was much needed as I conducted the archival work to jumpstart my study. My project specifically focuses on ALL (yes, all 12!) of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities established in North Carolina.

I spent much of my time at the first college to educate African American’s in the South, Shaw University, and look forward to sharing my findings and weaving a narrative of African-American education and social activism in this state.

Thank you @natlhumanities🧡
