29. Gonna be a year of progress. (Or; Michael Posts About Something Other Than Politics)

Those not in the loop may be unaware that I maimed my left leg in an accident three years ago. Four surgeries and three fresh new ligaments later, I can move and maneuver again but, as it’s been for the last forty months, I’ve been, most days, in pain for every moment between wake-up and sleep-fall, and believe me when I say that it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever experienced.

This leg has cost me an awful lot, whether my productivity, my mental health, or the relationships which have suffered from the mood that pain produces. But I’m 29 now and have decided; this ends before 30.

My life has taken a slower pace than I ever expected it to; obstacles have littered my path. I’m waiting for MRI results that will let me know if I need more surgery. But 29 will be my year regardless, the year where I defeat this pain with medicine and exercise or the year where I learn to live with it.

This is the part of the birthday message where I tell you all how much I appreciate you, the people who share even this little part of my life. I appreciate even more the lovely people, who know who they are, who have been so much support over these challenging years, the friends and family who’ve kept me upright. I love you all the more for all the help you’ve been as I’ve fought, first to preserve my mobility, then to resist the effects of the nightmare that is chronic pain.

I’m in so much debt to the people who have kept me going to 29. But this year? This year, I get back to who I was and who I’m going to be. And there will be a much better set of experiences to write about next year. by @its_the_bloom
