This Bassett MCM dresser came into the shop with those original plastic center details and a laminate top that had definitely seen better days. The bones were beautiful, it just needed someone patient enough to uncover them.

So here’s what I did:

🔸 Removed the plastic trim and replaced it with brand-new custom wood details, shoutout to my new Japanese pull saw from @workpro_tools ~it was perfect for all the smaller, precise cuts.

🔸 Added brand new wood veneer to the top to replace the old laminate.
Stained the entire piece in @generalfinishes Candlelight Gel Stain… which honestly brought the grain to life.

🔸 Finished everything with @generalfinishes Arm-R-Seal for that buttery, hand-rubbed glow.

🔸 Fresh staging, clean lines, and a whole new vibe, this once-dated Bassett is now an absolute showpiece.

And if you noticed that gorgeous textured backdrop… yes, that’s my wood slat wall panels from @unisoarshop ~USE FLIPPINTIME10 FOR 10% OFF Obsessed is an understatement. 🤎

Let me know… was the glow-up worth the work? 😍🔥 taken in Grand Forks, North Dakota by @itsaboutflippintime

The old store-bought shelves worked for a long time, but once I started putting this room back together, I knew I wanted something with a little more presence on this wall.

And while I was at it…it was finally time for the TV to go. 😂 It actually came with the condo when we bought it, and for years I just left it there because, well, it was already there. But I really didn’t use it, and it was taking up a huge chunk of wall space that I knew could be put to much better use.

So instead of trying to find shelves that were close to what I wanted, I decided to build them myself. Two long, chunky floating shelves made specifically for this space and proportioned to work with the size of the desk.

For the shelves, I mixed up a custom stain color to get the warm wood tone I was looking for, and I LOVE how it looks against the walls, which are @sherwinwilliams Ripe Olive. That combination might be my favorite part of this whole little office area.

But the best part?

I have my office back. ❤️

After months of this room being torn apart and everything that belonged in here being scattered throughout the condo, sitting down at my desk again feels SO good. taken in Grand Forks, North Dakota by @itsaboutflippintime

This piece has lived a few lives already…
and now it’s officially found its new purpose.

What once was a radio cabinet ➝ later storage ➝ is now a fully functional bathroom vanity.
Same Art Deco bones. Same character.
Just a completely different job.

I love how the warmth of the wood balances the clean tile, and how the modern faucet + vessel sink bring this old piece right back into the present. It’s proof that furniture doesn’t have to stop evolving just because it’s old.

Repurposing like this is never perfect, never linear, but when it works, it gives a space real soul. 🤍

More of the process (including the hiccups) is up on YouTube now.
And yes… this one earned its place in the house. taken in Grand Forks, North Dakota by @itsaboutflippintime

They say blondes have more fun… but I think this one was ready for a change! 😉

This dresser had good bones, but I wanted to give it a completely different look. I started by reworking the original base, making a few strategic cuts to create more defined, angled legs. Nothing too complicated, but what a difference it made!

And then came the color.

I’ve been trying to make a dent in my paint collection before buying any more (anyone else have this problem? 😂), so I pulled out several leftover @melangepaints from their previous color palette and started mixing.

I’d recently come across this beautiful, muted blue being featured as an upcoming color trend for 2027, and I thought, why not see if I can create something similar with what I already have?

A little of this, a little of that, and somehow I ended up with a color I absolutely love!

I kept the original brass hardware, which I think looks so good against the blue, and between the new base and the custom color, this little blondie has a whole new personality.

And the best part? I used paint I already had sitting on my shelves!

What do you think? Was this blondie ready for a change? taken in Grand Forks, North Dakota by @itsaboutflippintime

This one really shows how much the finish can change the entire personality of a piece.

I kept the body light with a custom mix of @legacypaintsco Washed Taupe + Wheatstone, then let the drawer fronts stay softer and more natural. Those got a paint wash using Fusion Mineral Paint Algonquin, followed by @generalfinishes Van Dyke Brown Glaze to add just enough depth and warmth without taking them back too dark.

I love that the grain still shows through, but the whole piece feels lighter, cleaner and a little more refined than where it started. And those original pulls? I think they were absolutely worth keeping.

A good reminder that sometimes you don’t have to choose between painted and wood, you can have both. taken in Grand Forks, North Dakota by @itsaboutflippintime

Well… this is definitely not the same builder-grade closet. 😂

When the water leak forced us to tear apart this room, I decided that if I had to put everything back together anyway, I might as well fix a few things that had never really worked for us, and this closet was at the top of that list.

Out came the wire shelf, the mismatched storage and all that wasted space, and I basically started from scratch.

I built the entire closet system myself using plywood, added oak trim to give everything a more finished, substantial look, built shelving on both sides, added double hanging space, a section for longer clothes, dedicated storage for the vacuum, and shelves and baskets for all those things that never seemed to have a proper home before.

And because apparently I couldn’t just build a closet and call it a day 😂, everything was sanded, stained and finished before I could finally start putting it all back together.

The walls are Ripe Olive by @sherwinwilliams and I LOVE the way that deep green looks behind the warm wood. It makes the whole thing feel so much more like a built-in rather than something I just added to a closet.

Is it perfect? Nope. I learned plenty along the way. But considering this started with a builder-grade wire rack and a closet that wasn’t using its space particularly well, I’m pretty darn proud of where I ended up.

It’s functional. It’s organized. And for the first time, the closet itself is actually beautiful.

Sometimes a water leak turns into a project you absolutely did not ask for… and sometimes you end up with the closet you wish you’d built years ago. 💚

This little desk has already lived more than one life. 🤎

Years ago, my client chose to paint it blue, and at the time, it was exactly what she wanted. It worked in her home, it was well loved, and it served its purpose beautifully.

But tastes change. Homes change. And sometimes we just change our minds.

I’ve always said that paint doesn’t have to be permanent. Painting a piece of furniture today doesn’t mean you can’t decide years down the road that you want to see the wood again. And this desk is proof.

So this time around, I stripped away the paint, uncovered the wood that had been hiding underneath, and gave this piece an entirely different look for its next chapter.

There’s room for painted furniture AND beautiful wood around here. 😉 Sometimes the best finish is simply the one that works for you right now.

What do you think, would you have kept the blue or taken it back to the wood? taken in Grand Forks, North Dakota by @itsaboutflippintime

The companion piece is finished. 🤎

If this coffee table looks familiar, there’s a reason. It belongs to the same client as the two carved side tables I recently refinished, and it has been part of her family for decades.

And this one gave me a little surprise the other two didn’t, a maker’s mark underneath identifying it as George Zee & Co., 122 Nathan Road in Kowloon, Hong Kong. George Zee & Co. was known for its carved furniture and had a strong following among Western customers, including American military personnel stationed in Asia. Historical accounts describe the company’s Hong Kong workshop with craftsmen carving and assembling furniture largely by hand.

Just like the side tables, this coffee table started out much darker. My client originally thought he wanted to stay closer to that darker finish, but once we stripped the other pieces and saw how beautiful all of that detail looked in a lighter tone, the plan changed.

So we carried that same finish over to this piece, a soft paint wash that quieted the warmer tones in the wood without covering them up. And I think it completely changed the way you see this table. Instead of the dark finish being the first thing you notice, the carving is.

And there is SO much carving. 😍

I love that these pieces still have their history and character, but now they feel completely at home in my client’s space.

Sometimes the furniture really does change the plan. 🤎

Would you have kept this one dark, or do you like seeing all that detail in the lighter finish? taken in Grand Forks, North Dakota by @itsaboutflippintime

This glider has been in my client’s family for years, and she wanted to bring it back closer to what it originally looked like while still giving it a fresh, updated feel.

She had refinished it herself at one point, so getting it back to a natural wood finish meant undoing quite a bit first. And this one definitely made me work for it. 😅

I stripped, scraped, sanded, cleaned with acetone, stripped some more, sanded some more, disassembled the base so I could get into all those hard-to-reach areas, and then worked my way around what felt like approximately 900 spindles and curves.

Once I finally got it back down to the wood, I was able to rebuild that warm, medium-brown tone that felt much closer to its original look and would still coordinate beautifully with her home.

This was one of those projects that reminded me why family pieces are worth the extra time. You can always buy another chair…but you can’t replace the history that comes with this one.

And after seeing it finished, I’d say all that stripping, scraping, sanding was worth it. 🤎 taken in Grand Forks, North Dakota by @itsaboutflippintime

A change of plans can change everything.

The original plan was a darker stain, but after seeing the raw wood, my client decided on a soft paint wash instead. The result feels lighter, brighter, and lets the beautiful carving shine.

Some furniture doesn’t need to shout to make a statement.

This Thomasville buffet started out tired, scratched, and ready for a second chance. Instead of reaching for a standard black or green, I mixed my own custom color using @legacypaintsco Midnight Reserve and Night Garden until it landed somewhere in between, a rich, moody charcoal with subtle olive undertones that changes beautifully with the light.

The top was finished in @generalfinishes Java, adding just enough warmth to complement the restored brass hardware and bring the whole piece together.

It’s always amazing how the right combination of color, wood, and original details can completely transform a piece without taking away its character.

Would you have kept it wood… or are you loving this dramatic makeover?

Every once in a while, a piece doesn’t leave the shop.

I had been thinking about changing our dining room table for a while, and when this restoration was finished, I realized… this was the one.

One of the greatest gifts of doing what I do is that every now and then, I get to bring a piece I’ve poured my heart into, into my own home.

There’s something incredibly rewarding about walking by it every day and knowing I gave it a second chance. Every hour of sanding, every repair, every decision along the way… it all becomes part of something our family gets to enjoy.

More than anything, I hope this table becomes the place where we gather, celebrate, laugh, and make memories for years to come.

It brings me so much joy knowing something I put my blood, sweat, and tears into gets to have a new life… right here at home. 🤎 taken in Grand Forks, North Dakota by @itsaboutflippintime
