The day after.

Yesterday was adrenaline. Today it’s actually sinking in.

We went back down last night when everything was quiet and seeing the building like that — knowing it’s now a crime scene, knowing how many unknowns come with this — made the whole thing feel very, very real.

My salon itself appears to be okay, which I’m so grateful for. But we still can’t access the building, we don’t know when we’ll be allowed back in, and there’s a lot right now that’s completely out of my hands.

So today I’m sitting at the beach with a coffee and Doug, trying to process what the fuck just happened.

No big motivational ending yet.

The absolute unsung heroes of any large runway is the huge team of Hair and Make Up creatives who spend all day prepping a massive group of models! Squeezing them in between fittings and rehearsals amongst the absolute chaos that is a fashion show greenroom!

This was definitely a cool job 🫰

AVEDA ARTIST RETREAT 💚

Still trying to put the last three days into words 🤍

A huge thank you to Aveda for giving me my first opportunity to educate on stage — something I’m so incredibly grateful for and will never forget.

But honestly, one of the biggest highlights was the people. Having the opportunity to connect with over 100 incredible industry professionals was unreal. Every single hairdresser I met brought something different, and I’ve walked away completely blown away by the talent, creativity, generosity and passion in the room.

I’ve left feeling so inspired, creatively recharged, and with about a million ideas already running through my head 😂 I genuinely cannot wait to start planning and creating again.

PART TWO — THE PLAN 🧪

Why 240+ back-to-back foils instead of a scalp bleach?

CONTROL.

Her ends were already extremely porous and compromised, and even with a test strand, I knew I was working with an unpredictable canvas. There was a lot of history in this hair, a lot of unevenness, and absolutely no guarantee it was going to lift evenly.

A scalp bleach would have given me far less control over where the lightener was sitting and how each section was processing.

So instead, I went in with meticulous back-to-back foils, adjusting my approach as I worked through the head and protecting those fragile areas as much as possible.

Once everything was lifted, I worked with the darkest level the hair had safely given me — a level 9 — rather than pushing compromised hair further just for the sake of getting it lighter.

From there, I used a base breaker to soften the natural base and mimic that seamless scalp-bleach effect, before toning everything together at a level 9.

And Botanical Repair was used ALL the way through. 🤌🏼

The final stats?

9 HOURS straight.
240+ foils.
Over 2 KILOS of lightener. 😮‍💨

Was it perfect platinum in one sitting? No — and that was never worth sacrificing the integrity of her hair for.

But as a first round on a seriously unpredictable canvas?

I was bloody stoked with it. 🤍

This is what corrective blonding actually looks like — assess, adapt, protect the hair and work with what the canvas gives you.

And honestly… I loved every second of this one.
