NEW INTERVIEW: Our First Collaboration
David Stallings sits down with co-director Andrew Baker and Director of Photography Paul Moldenhauer to talk about Struggle - a short film built inside virtual reality, recreating a real conversation between strangers who met online.
Struggle is the first collaboration between Stalled Productions, BAKER! Media, and 643 Productions. In this conversation, the three filmmakers talk about what it took to direct a film inside VR, the absurd technical realities of shooting in a video game, and how three Phoenix production companies came together to make one short.

“I literally had the conversation with my director and they’re like ‘you realize that most of this is out of focus’ and I was like ‘no it’s not’ - I couldn’t tell.”
Andrew Baker on the moment that ended his life as a camera operator - and the unexpected blessing that came after.
A reminder that the work we end up doing isnt always the work we set out to do - and sometimes that’s exactly how it’s supposed to be.

“I was on an Apple box standing with a gimbal going around people. We did this with no focus puller and three people on set.”
Andrew Baker on shooting Frames with full creative control at 21 - the kind of scrappy filmmaking that only happens when you have nothing to lose and everything to learn.
