Red trees and white mountains, exactly what I expected to see when planning a fall trip to Patagonia. This is from being at higher elevation. Lower down, everything was still green. In hindsight, I might even recommend going later, like 3rd or 4th week of April instead of 1st week.

The amazing Spirit Island in Jasper, Alberta. Full set of images from this day coming soon. // I remember seeing photos of this place for the very first time in the summer of 2016 and immediately being drawn to it. An island in a perfectly blue lake, which is often very still, and perfectly framed by what I still regard as a particularly unique shape of amphitheater-like surrounding mountains. It’s super popular now and photos of it have circled the world ten times over and back again, but it’s still as beautiful as ever, and usually pretty peaceful since access is so restricted. // also - random fact of the day: Spirit Island is actually not an island, it’s an isthmus, which is a piece of land which is sometimes a peninsula and other times an island depending on the water level at the time. So let’s all start calling in Spirit Isthmus alright. #SpiritIsthmus taken in Jasper National Park by @itsbigben

This month, we invited our community to explore the beauty, power, and quiet moments found in nature through photography.

Guest curator @itsbigben selected this month’s winning image from our top submissions and shared his thoughts on a collection of standout photographs that caught our eye. Swipe through to explore the collection and hear his reflections.

Congratulations to our winner, @desigraphie ✨

Thank you to everyone who shared your work with us. We loved seeing the many ways you interpreted nature, from expansive landscapes to intimate details, and we’re grateful to everyone who took part.

Ben’s thoughts: “This is one of those places that photographers dream about, but it still takes patience to come away with a frame like this. The soft twilight purple is perfect. The shot feels more like a dream state, and less like a place that exists on this earth. I want to be there in that tent and sleep for days.”

📸 @drchompster

Ben’s thoughts: “The low fog adds a nice atmosphere and helps separate the little huts from the mountains behind them. It’s a peaceful scene with soft light that suits the landscape really well. It makes me want to live there”

📸 @noamwarsh

Ben’s thoughts: “There’s so much movement here that your eye keeps finding something new every time you look at it. The black and white edit really suits the shots and lets patterns emerge. Great timing and a really strong use of light and texture.”

📸 @thesoulbounders

Ben’s thoughts: “This shot is so balanced and soft, it’s easy to connect with and doesn’t feel overdone. Effortless might be the best single word to describe the feel of the shot. Nothing is overthought, it’s not overly edited and everything seems to have lined up at the right time. Also the landscape is absolutely epic. Great location choice.”

📸 @santmarvin

Ben’s thoughts: “Sometimes simple works best. The different colours and repeating rows make for a clean, cheerful image that’s easy to look at.”

📸 @desigraphie

Ben’s thoughts: “This is one of those landscape shots where everything clearly lined up all at once. The colour and timing is perfect. The clouds, the light, the colour in the water all come by @itsbigben

I spent a full week exploring Iceland aboard #LeBellot and somehow managed to cram a lifetime of memories into seven days.

From visiting abandoned whaling villages in the Westfjords, to photographing puffins inside the Arctic Circle, every day felt completely different from the one before it.

These were my five favourite moments from the journey.

Which one would be at the top of your list?

My favourite moment from a week exploring Iceland aboard #LeBellot with @ponant.

At first glance, Grímsey is just a tiny island off the northern coast of Iceland. But despite its small size, it holds a unique distinction: it is the only part of Iceland that lies within the Arctic Circle.

After anchoring offshore, we boarded a tender and made our way to the island. One of the things I enjoyed most about this expedition was the opportunity to experience places like Grímsey alongside experts who could help bring them to life. In this case, I had the pleasure of exploring the island with volcanologist Kirt Kempter, whose knowledge added an entirely different dimension to the experience.

As we walked north across the island, I found myself appreciating not only the landscape but also the feeling of being somewhere genuinely remote.

Further up the path, I encountered something I had been hoping to see ever since I first picked up a camera: puffins.

I’ve photographed wildlife on different continents, but until this trip I had never seen one.

One of the things I loved most about travelling aboard Le Bellot was that no two days were the same.

A typical day might begin with coffee on deck as Iceland’s coastline emerged from the mist, but beyond that, every day brought a new adventure.

On this particular morning, that meant boarding a small boat to circumnavigate the volcanic island of Heimaey by water.

We ventured inside sea caves, passed beneath thousand-foot cliffs, and viewed the famous Elephant Rock from sea level. Seeing the landscape from the water offered a perspective that wouldn’t be possible from land.

Our guide also shared stories of the people who lived here long before modern conveniences arrived. For generations, they depended on the sea and seabird colonies for survival, sometimes descending hundreds of feet down near-vertical cliffs using ropes and ladders to collect eggs.

It’s one thing to admire a landscape for how it looks, but it’s another to understand the history and rugged environment that shaped life there.

As a photographer, I’m always looking for new perspectives.

Sometimes that means hiking a mountain, but more often these days, it means getting out on the paddleboard.

For this evening, I brought the Aqua Marina REVOLUTION which is now available at Costco locations all across Canada.

I spent a few hours exploring the shoreline of one of my favourite lakes in British Columbia. It’s amazing how different a familiar place can feel when viewed from a new perspective.

One of the things I like most about Aqua Marina’s design is the simplicity. It is always very easy to set up. Everything packs into a single bag: the electric pump, paddle, PFD, fin and tether - plus the board itself - making it easy to keep my gear ready for whenever the forecast cooperates.

Some of my favourite adventures aren’t the big ones.

They’re the evenings that start with a quick stop for supplies, a drive into the mountains, and a few hours spent around good food and good company.

This is my favourite way to spend a summer evening in BC.
