cover for this years Tarikh 2026 for @historysocststephenscollege

just so happened that I've been asked to do the journal illustrations for the last 3 years so its fun to see the work evolve over time.

Outline for an article on mughal art under akbar, very fun to collect elements from miniatures. This one is makes a sort of collage from the elements from a few pages of Akbarnama

final illustration for previous

Article on Kadambini Bose Ganguly, turns out that there is only this one grainy image on the internet. Everyone sort of interpolates from this one public domain photo and so the resulting 'alternate' illustrations are quite funny, its also very sad.

final illustration

sketch for an article initially titled on the lines of "Epistemic Leviathan". very, very tempted to use the original leviathan frontpiece illustration from Hobbes but the article really wasn't about the leviathan so to say.

ultimately, very happy with the visual metaphor on this one. so much for AI replacing jobs

final coloured illustration. by @itscalledflying

because the painting stayed on the roof for so long, the neighbour who is an old lady, had been looking at it for some time.

when she saw me on the roof oneday she asked what is that in shoroshoti's left hand, "it's a compass" I said. I had put a compass and ruler because of stuff I read about euclid, mathematics and all that.

she told me that she had thought it was a scissor, "শিক্ষার অরাজকতা কাটানোর জন্য" (to cut through the injustices of education) the word "কাটানোর" could mean either "to cut" or "to bring to an end".

I dont find myself moved to any religion, but I do not know what can explain truth in things sometimes said accross roofs. maybe once the work is done I should stay quiet for sometime and let other people tell me what it is about. by @itscalledflying
