Endless night clubs and club nights have come and gone over the years, only a few ever became legendary.

The Hill in Muswell Hill was one of the few and it made an indelible imprint on London night life in the 00s.

It was such a privilege for us to get together with old friends and play a set at The Hill Reunion 2026.

The stylish setting of @sopershouse was filled with beautiful people and big energy – the vibes were off the chart.

We partied from day into night and it felt just like the good old days, maybe even better.

I’ve never shared a post like this before, this is very personal.

My fitness journey began in April 2021, I weighed approximately 75 kg at the time and was skinny fat – I had a normal BMI but too much body fat and not enough muscle mass.

I, bought a set of dumbbells, started doing home workouts and didn’t have a clue what I was doing but I love that version of me for taking those first steps and for making good choices.

It’s important for your fitness journey to have a “why”, a core purpose that will continue to motivate you beyond more superficial goals, like losing weight.

The “why” that got me started was to get some movement in and exercise, in order to release the endorphins and serotonin, it was for my mental well being more than anything else.

Now my overarching “why” is about longevity and to invest in myself so that I can continue to enjoy a good quality of life as I get older – to have mobility, independence and dignity if I get to a good old age.

Motivation alone isn’t enough though, the journey requires consistency and discipline, it requires routine and structure, it requires the cultivation of healthy habits and over time it becomes lifestyle.

About 6 months into my journey I started going to the gym and I was using only the machines. Also at that time I had the realisation that if I’m going to go to all this effort in the gym then I should also be making an equal effort with what I’m putting into my body and so I became more curious about nutrition.

I prioritised whole foods and protein, and made an effort to eat in a calorie surplus to bulk up. However this was to become the world’s longest bulking phase, ever!

But it would take about another 12 months until I felt confident enough to step into the free weights area at the gym.

That was around November 2022 and at that time I weighed around 87.5 kg – I had a lot more body fat but I was also getting stronger and building more muscle mass.

The bulking phase went on forever and at my heaviest I weighed around 91 kg. By now my jawline had become a distant memory so in an effort to get reacquainted with it, in June 2024 I decided to attempt my first cut.

It’s Sunday morning, Notting Hill Carnival 2025 is finally here, and I wanted to take a moment to reflect on my journey.

My early experiences of being involved in NHC have become core memories. The very first time, it was getting to DJ on the now infamous Rampage sound system, and the following year it was playing on a Kiss FM float.

Those early moments lit the fire for me. Now fast forward to today, and as a DJ I can say, hands down, there is no better gig than playing at Notting Hill Carnival. It is simply the best.

Over the last 11 or 12 years, I’ve deepened my connection with carnival, having had the unique opportunity to collaborate with one of the most highly acclaimed mas bands at NHC — UCOM Carnival.

I consider it a great privilege to make even a small contribution to the culture of carnival and to have the sense of purpose that comes along with it.

The opportunity has allowed me to meet so many creative, talented, dedicated and hard-working people, and I’m very grateful to call many of them my friends.

Every year without fail, there’s a point where carnival has me questioning my sanity — but it really is a labour of love.

Until you’ve experienced it from the inside, it’s impossible to appreciate how much time, energy, and how many people it takes to make carnival happen.

When it’s a part of your life, it can feel soul-destroying that the mainstream media portrays it as nothing more than a street party, with the highlights reel reduced to a bunch of crime statistics.

But carnival is so much more than that.

It’s an event of huge cultural significance, it brings together people from all over the world and makes a significant contribution to the London economy.

The spirit of carnival and its history is rooted in resistance against oppression, in protest and uprising — and it stands as a celebration of freedom in all its chaotic glory.

This was my first London to Brighton bike ride and it was an unforgettable experience, I enjoyed every minute of it 🚴‍♀️💨

It felt like such a huge privilege to be among 14,000 riders rolling out of Clapham Common that morning and the energy was electric.

That was also a reminder — as much as the ride was a massive personal challenge it was also bigger than me, it was bigger than all of us and what we were doing would help others.

I went into the ride feeling calm and well-prepared. Training had gone mostly to plan and fuelling was dialled in.

I started in the 8:30am wave and the weather was perfect, a gift!

The first 10-15 km were slow-moving due to congestion, but once the road opened up I had a brief internal wobble — an adrenaline spike or a flicker of panic. What if I push too hard? What if my pace is too fast? What if I burn out? But I grounded myself. Talked myself through it. And that moment passed. It never came back.

After that I was able to settle into a rhythm and ride at my own pace. I fuelled on the move, hydrated consistently, and never lost momentum.

I made just one rest stop at Ardingly Showground – it was quick, no faffing. The rest of the ride flowed. My pace was steady, my energy consistent, and I didn’t hit any walls.

My official finish time was 4hrs 16 mins and moving time on Strava was bang on 4hrs. I smashed my estimate based on training and finished in the top 10%.

But the real defining moment was beating The Beacon. With more than 70 km in the legs, I hit the base of the climb and it felt like it went on forever. A winding wall of tarmac.

I tracked a rider ahead of me, stayed in the saddle and breath by breath I just kept the pedals turning.

Getting to the top was such an incredible feeling, it felt like such a triumph in itself.

The descent into Brighton was magic. I had energy left to sprint through the streets and over the finish line — and spotting my crew cheering me on, that moment alone was worth every kilometre.

After the ride, we had lunch in The Lanes, then sat in the sun and ate ice cream by the sea. It couldn’t have been any better and I couldn’t be happier.

I’m taking on the iconic London to Brighton bike ride – a 54 mile route from Clapham Common to the finish line on Brighton beachfront.

Before I started this journey that was further than I had ever cycled and a huge personal challenge, but this is also bigger than me.

I’m fundraising for the British Heart Foundation to support their life-saving work.

If you’d like to back me it would genuinely mean a lot and every donation, big or small, is truly appreciated 🙏

Since signing up I’ve been training my absolute ass off and I’m deep into it.

I’ve been posting all my training updates on my JustGiving page, so head over there to follow my progress and to make a donation - I’ve put the link in my bio taken in London, United Kingdom by @itschrisvee

So I fasted just for one day, in the last days of Ramadan, and here’s what happened.

Firstly, thank you to everyone for your supportive messages.

I had literally never fasted before, so it was something I did to challenge myself rather than for religious reasons, and I felt a bit anxious about it because I was not confident that I’d be able to see it through.

My fast was only for one day, but we live busy lives and don’t always have the time to unpack our experiences and process them straight away, so it’s taken a few days for me to find a few moments of stillness to organize my thoughts, and this is what I got from the experience.

It made me way more mindful and intentional about my meals, the quality of nutrition, and how I was fueling my body.

I was surprised that I was still able to hit my calorie intake and macro goals, as I thought there would be a huge deficit.

But abstaining from eating was not as hard as abstaining from hydrating. I’m not convinced there are any benefits to dehydrating yourself, but everyone that fasts has told me it gets easier after a few days, so I guess our bodies adapt.

I am someone prone to getting hangry if I skip meals, and the experience made me more mindful throughout the day about reacting to those feelings and not allowing them to control my mood and how I interact with others.

There are more potential benefits for personal growth and self-development. Knowing that you could get something to eat or drink at any time and choosing not to exercises your willpower and strengthens your self-control, discipline, patience, commitment, and determination.

It is also an opportunity to really lean into gratitude knowing that you have that choice available to you and humbling to know there are others that don’t have that choice.

For example, in Gaza, after six months of conflict, Palestinians have access to less than one liter of safe water per person per day for drinking, washing, and cooking.

It’s reported that in Northern Gaza, famine is already occurring, and Palestinians have had to survive on 245 calories per day, that’s about half a can of baked beans.

Week five of getting back on track was also week one of starting a new training programme, a four-day workout split.

It feels really good to be going into spring, a time for renewal and growth with a new set of challenges and new goals.

Top on the list of those goals is good old consistency, again. That means showing up four days each week. Rinse and repeat that every week for six weeks and then for another six weeks.

It’s important to commit to something that you can sustain and for me four days will be a challenge because up to this point I have been doing two to three gym sessions per week. I’m going to be flexible though about how I fit those four days in around my life and I’ll do my best to make it work.

On another note, recovery from workouts has been so much better, my body is feeling activated without the acute soreness of the first few weeks. With the exception of leg day when the hip adductor had my groin bruck up for days after!

With that said, it’s leg day again now and I’m off to the gym, wish me luck ✌️ taken in London, United Kingdom by @itschrisvee

Appreciation post 🙏 I’m feeling extra excitement for Notting Hill Carnival this year. The theme for 2024 is one that I feel a personal connection to, “Carnevale di Venezia.” 🎭

I was born in Rome, and having family origins in the Veneto region of Northern Italy, with Venice as its capital city, this theme holds special significance.

First and foremost, a huge shoutout to Paul O’Donoghue for designing the costume collection. The way the costumes speak to the mystique and drama of the Venetian Carnival, you absolutely nailed it bro!

Next up, a heartfelt thank you to all the creatives and talent involved in the shoot and launch event - from the photographers and videographers, to makeup artists and models. A special thank you to Rhona for all your help.

Big love to the whole UCOM family - you are an incredible team and the best band, hands down!

Lastly, as I write this, the section is on the brink of selling out. A massive thank you to everyone that has signed up. Feel so grateful for your support and honoured to be entrusted with your carnival experience.

Week three of getting back on track saw me just about scrape over the line on Sunday with my only gym session for the week, but we made it!

What has surprised me is how quickly you lose it when you don’t use it! Since I started my fitness journey, three months has been the longest that I have gone off track, and getting back on track has been a painful experience. The workouts have been tough, and the recovery has been even tougher!

We are constantly negotiating with ourselves in life, and it is so easy to talk yourself out of doing things that feel difficult. But when we break the promises that we make with ourselves, we not only disappoint ourselves and feel guilty, but we also undermine our personal integrity.

Self-care is about being disciplined and building healthy habits and should really be a non-negotiable.

So we move, and week four of getting back on track has been a good week. Two gym sessions, both full-body strength training workouts. The weights are moving better, and the recovery is so much better, feeling less soreness and more activation. Now to stay on track ✌️ by @itschrisvee
