so many emotions, endless words i could use, so little time.

i’ve spent the last couple of days trying to find the right words to honor someone who was so powerful with her writing. i had never met someone who could so beautifully put every emotion, dream, struggle, and feeling onto paper. i always wondered how could someone so young have writing so raw and full emotion that could move people so deeply.

But, as i think of tanisha and her life, i can’t help but feel proud of everything she accomplished. it’s rare for someone to touch as many people as she did, to make so many people feel loved, seen, and understood. Tanisha had this innate ability to make everyone she crossed feel so loved and special. you were the brightest and most selfless star in so many people’s universe.

throughout our friendship, i always told tanisha how grateful i was that we became friends. she met me at one of the darkest and lowest times in my life. she was one of those people who never made me feel like i was overly dramatic, or too emotional. she made me feel validated and loved me exactly how i was. thats something I will forever be grateful for.

Ive come to terms that I’ll never have the right words to fully show how much I loved you. And while I’m scared of going on without you by our side, you left seeds in so many peoples heart.

Tanisha always wanted to share her poetry. so much of why she wrote was to help others feel understood in their own struggles. And while she might not be here, her spirit lives on through every line she wrote. So I leave you with this, so that we can always remember her.

Britney,

i owe so much of who i am today and who i am becoming because of the morals you instilled in me, that at times you didn’t even know you were passing onto me.

you showed me how to be confident, how to never take no for an answer, how to unapologetically be myself, how to protect myself and those i care for, to be selfless, and what a true leader should be.

As a kid, I heard a saying that goes “no hay que llorar la muerte, es mejor celebrar la vida.” and as much as I have cried, I am so blessed to have someone that makes saying goodbye so hard.

grief is the strongest expression of love. so while i embrace my grief, I plan to celebrate the life you had. your name and spirit will live through us. through the stories you told, the people you loved, your smile that shined so bright, and the impact you made on countless lives.

Britney, i’ll love you forever. i’m so glad our paths not only crossed but stayed together. you accepted me for who I am and that is something I will forever be grateful for. I will forever look to the brightest star in the sky to know you’re there. no matter where life takes me from now on, you’ll always have a seat next to me. And I promise to never stop screaming 333 with all I have. it was one of my greatest honors and privileges to call you a friend. to call you a sister.
