Some pics from a night @thecomedystore. 3 of my favorites. Bobby helped me re-create a photo we took at the store in 2012 / Kat talked to me for 10 min about writing / and Fahim gave me some advice moments before he got called up for his 2nd set of the night. The comedy world is very unique and I’m just happy to learn. Another day for them but a special memory for me.

Last year I decided I wanted to try stand up. Not because I thought I was undeniably funny but because I love comedy and the idea of telling jokes in front of an audience was intimidating. I started to write down jokes in my phone. It consumed me. It was therapeutic. Like a diary. Many bad jokes and a few good ones. And by good I mean bad. I went to an open mic for like 3 months and never signed up. I’d chicken out and just watch. Then one night I put my name in the bucket. When they called on me I was nervous but excited. Excited to do it and in a weird way, at peace if I ended up bombing. Because bombing was just evidence that I tried. And not trying was something that might eat at me. I did 5 minutes, half reading from index cards. I got some laughs, some crickets. I heard someone swallow. I left that night with the bug. I gotta do it again.

At this point I’ve done probably 40 open mics and 25 shows. Shows where I was actually booked. Unpaid, but booked. I’m still new but I’d rather be green than blue. The more I go up the less scary it gets. And whether the jokes get better or not, I’m going to keep doing it until there is no more scared left. It’s been a great outlet for me. I had to get over the idea of “who am I thinking I’m funny enough to waste people’s time?” And I began to realize I have nothing to do with other people’s time, just mine. taken in Flappers Comedy Club Burbank by @itsdrestires

It’s summer ‘03 in Bay Head NJ. Remembered to complain in the morning but forgot to brush my teeth so I picked up some Orbit at the local 7-11. Is that a ledge I see? Timmy grab the wax before the Kellogg’s get home, I’m about to board slide on their property. Dad came out to tell me he got the donuts but I’m over it, I just wanna skate and be left alone. Ps: this cute girl up the block totally eyed me when we passed on our beach cruisers yesterday, gonna do some pop shove its in front of her house. But if she comes out, I’m making a run for it.
