in honour of the world cup this year, here are some iconic photos from the 1996 soccer six charity tournament that raised money for music therapy. the most notable match was oasis vs blur - with blur winning 2-0 and leaving liam gallagher in a huff.

(spot robbie williams too)

john lennon and paul mccartney jamming at the marietta hotel in obertauern, austria in 1965 during the filming of help!

originally playing at the hotel that night were the band ‘jacky and the strangers’, but when john and paul showed up to watch (as they knew jacky spelter from their hamburg days), they were of course persuaded to play too.🪲

32 years ago today, oasis released ‘cigarettes and alcohol’, their final single from their debut album ‘definitely maybe’.

every time i think about doing the poznan to it at the etihad next year i feel absolutely sick with excitement. in fact, i think my entire life has just been a precursor to it.

happy birthday to john lennon, who would have been 86 today.

it’s hard to imagine even the possibility of him still being alive now - he would be an old man. we never had the privilege of seeing the full progression of his career or his life. and yet in the 40 years he did live, he managed to cement himself as one of the greatest songwriters and creatives of all time.

the musical landscape in which we live today wouldn’t exist without him. the cultural landscape in which we live today wouldn’t exist without him. and we sure as HELL wouldn’t be going to oasis ‘27 next year without him!

thinking of john today, and about how his bedroom light will be left on tonight - as though he were still just a little boy living at mendips.

part 2 of my favourite smiths lyrics of all time!

just in time for autumn (although weirdly i’ve always associated the smiths with a sad, somber summer😌🍂🌞)

the sound of music⛰️🌄🌳🎼🌿

i was lucky enough to visit salzburg recently - the beautiful city where one of my favourite 60s films of all time was filmed🥲

i hadn’t watched the sound of music for a while when we booked the tour and so the night before i rewatched the entire film in my hotel room. i ended up sobbing my eyes out for 3 hours straight and giving myself only a few hours sleep before we had to get up and travel across the austria-germany border. so incredibly worth it though - this film and this song will never fail to make me cry💌🪽🇦🇹
