One of the most helpful things you can do as an artist is get clear about where you are in your journey.

Some artists are experimenting.
Some are chasing attention.
Some are ready to build something intentional.

I focus on beginner artists who are ready for that third stage.

Most artists fail fast and never recover.

Not for lack of lack of talent.

They struggle because no one helped them build clarity first.

If you’re serious about your growth, start there.

Family is the biggest killer of dreams.

Friends are in that same boat.

Understand that sharing the same blood doesn’t mean they know what’s best for you.

There’s a higher chance their advice is the exact opposite of what you should follow.

I’m seeing a trend.

Many artists are riding a wave instead of creating it.

Looking to see what’s working and chasing that.

Don’t react to what’s going on around you.

Create your world.

Bring your listeners into it.

Be a thermostat in a world of thermometers.

Hate to say I told you so.

Distrokid is currently the world’s biggest distribution company for indies.

After the sale to private equity, you were no longer a customer.

You’re a piece of data.

They do not own your music.

They own the pipeline that your music goes through to get to your listeners.

So, they don’t care if you’re waiting on those royalties to eat.

More information coming soon.

It’s not easy.

But if it was, every artist would be known.

Find a way to get people interested in what you have going on.

“Out now” doesn’t give me or anyone else a reason to listen.

I had to chime in on this.

Hip hop is born out of the struggle.

It was our way of telling the story of the injustices, hardships, and everyday life of people in our communities.

Don’t let some outsider try to tell you to shut up and rap.

This is just entertainment for them.

For us, it’s life.

Hold hip hop high.
