Can you play whilst writing emails? 👀

Consider this my unofficial commitment to actually practice what we talk about here and find out what being more playful looks like in real life.

I don’t have a grand plan for it yet. I’d quite like us to work it out together.

So, where does play show up in your ordinary day?

I think part of growing up was learning how to behave appropriately around difficult things. There are times for seriousness, of course. But somewhere along the way, I may have started treating any moment of lightness as evidence that I wasn’t taking things seriously enough.

That doesn’t feel quite true to me now.

Laughing at something doesn’t mean the difficult thing has stopped mattering, and enjoying one moment doesn’t make the rest of the day dishonest. A bit of play doesn’t require us to pretend everything is fine.

It can simply be one more thing that is true at the same time.

Not an instruction to be playful when you don’t feel like it. Just a possibility, if a little bit of play happens to turn up.

I’m not sure when I started thinking I had to be in the right mood to play.

Sometimes doing something silly when life feels difficult can feel a bit wrong, as though it means you aren’t taking the difficult thing seriously enough.

But a daft little moment doesn’t make the rest of the day less real. It just gets to be there too.

Anyway, I’m trying not to wait until I’m cheerful enough.

There’s a difference between life being difficult and everyday life feeling a bit flat. They aren’t the same thing, obviously, and putting music on while you make dinner isn’t going to sort out the genuinely difficult bits.
But I do think repetition can make us forget that the way we’ve been doing things isn’t the only way to do them.
Maybe that’s part of what play does. Not necessarily showing us a better or more productive way… just another way, with a bit more life in it.
(That’s the thought underneath the teddy pep talk, really. 🧸)

Is there an ordinary part of your day that you already do in a slightly odd or playful way?

It was a story of great love, and greater loss. 😭 by @itsemilyphier

Promoting your small business when it’s boiling hot, your to-do list is sentient, and the only thing holding you together is whimsy.

Anyway… play with me?

I have so many more photos than this. ✨…Here’s a lil taster of the very eye opening very wondrous time Elliot and I had exploring Ancient Egypt, and then diving into the meaning of life, love, and everything in between in the sunshine 🇪🇬 feeling so very grateful ❤️

We stand,
Held in the window.
The day’s final breath,
Touches our skin.

Our reflections speak,
What we cannot.
Two broken souls,
Healed with threads of light.

A parakeet flies by,
Another, and another.
Until a flock of gold and green,
Touches the burning sun.

A merging of auras,
Our souls fly with them.
Soaring freely, but held,
by the threads of light between us.

Summer iPhone film of adventures and me feeling myself 🧚🏼‍♀️📷

✨I may be finite but love is expansive and I believe in an infinite world. 🪷

I am so grateful to have been on many incredible adventures this summer, my world has expanded beyond what I could imagine, and I couldn’t have done that without the love and support of people I hold so dear. Special shout out to Nicolas for guiding me back when I was lost. And to think I’m now posting this sailing along the Nile with Elliot, making my childhood Egyptian dreams come true. 🥹

…London / NYC / Amsterdam / the Cotswolds - I couldn’t be more thankful to be living a life where there’s no limit on how much I can feel. 💞
