Too many Black men are walking around feeling like they aren’t enough, not smart enough, not successful enough, not chosen enough.

The rejection, the gatekeeping, the social media narratives that pit us against our sisters…it weighs heavy.

But you are enough.
As you are.
Right now.

Your journey is not delayed.
Your purpose is not denied.
Your worth is not determined by who validates you.

Black man, you are seen.
You are valued.
You are necessary.

Keep growing. Keep healing. Keep showing up.

Your story is still unfolding, and it is powerful beyond measure.

For decades, media depictions of Black brotherhood have operated under strict, unwritten rules, and few are as rigid as the boundary line drawn between straight and gay men.

In popular culture and, too often, real life, the myth persists that straight Black men and gay Black men cannot coexist in true, organic friendship.

The reasons behind this divide are deeply rooted: the fear that guilt-by-association will compromise a straight man’s hyper-masculine image, the concern that women might question a man’s sexuality based on his circle, or the uncomfortable trope of the gay friend harboring a secret intention to “convert” his straight homies.

These anxieties have long policed Black male camaraderie, reducing interactions to performative distance, hyper-vigilance, and an endless stream of defensive “no homo” or “pause” qualifiers whenever topics stray into vulnerability or intimacy (and many times when they don’t).

That is precisely why the dynamic between Shaquille Johnson, Amir Rodale, and Kojo Achebe in Netflix’s A Different World reboot feels not just refreshing, but culturally essential.

I’ve been a fan of J. Alphonse Nicholson since he first stole the scene as Lil Murda.

Witnessing his evolution over the years, leading up to major projects this year like HBO Max’s “Lanterns,” “If I Go Will They Miss Me,” and the final season of “P-Valley,” has been so inspiring.

It was dope sitting down with him to discuss his journey, Black fatherhood, and legacy.

Building a media platform isn’t about beating the algorithms or stressing over being the first to break a story.

The real secret to longevity? Unshakeable consistency and authenticity.
