and just like that seven years went by… and now, here we are 💍

to everyone who has been a part of this (long) journey with us, whether it has been from the very beginning or even for just a moment.

thank for supporting us, praying for us and loving us,
your presence will forever be engrained in our story 🤍 by @itsfioline

Today is Cap Go Meh, marking the close of Lunar New Year, and so it felt like the right time to share these photos… also because they’ve been sitting on my computer since last year.

I’m Chinese Indonesian.
Which means my relationship with “being Chinese” has never been one-dimensional.

It’s culture, but it’s also history.
It’s celebration, but it’s also complexity.
It’s something that lives between countries, languages, and expectations.

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how we show up in the world, especially as young Asian creatives and how this identity isn’t something we should perform, but rather something we live out.

There’s a trend currently going around that says:
“You met me at a very Chinese time in my life.”

And despite the discourse around cultural appropriation versus appreciation and the occasional tinge of cringe when I hear the term ‘chinamaxxing’, I get why it’s resonating.

For many of us, this chance to embrace our culture publicly feels powerful.

Reclaiming space. Owning what once felt muted.

But I also think identity isn’t a switch you turn on when it trends. It’s something you live with — sometimes loudly, sometimes quietly.

It’s about understanding you can hold multiple worlds at once, honour tradition without turning it into performance, and grow forward without shedding where you began.

So here’s to Cap Go Meh, to familial roots, to identity, and to celebrating ourselves on our own terms.

And a massive thank you to @yingbakabaka from @yy_hanfudiary, who did the absolute most — from hair, make-up, outfit sourcing and borrowing, to photography and editing — giving me the chance to connect with my heritage in a way I’ve never experienced before. by @itsfioline

don’t ask why it took so long to edit this…and don’t ask why we’re planning another trip 🫣

at 16 I wrote out my twenties like a checklist.

degree, job, fall in love, house, then marriage, exact ages and all. degree at 21, full-time job at 22, fall in love at 23, engaged at 25, married at 26.

almost none of it happened when I said it would.
fell in love at 16, not 23 (though I didn’t realise it yet).

quit a job I’d only just landed to bet on myself instead. bought the investment property three years later than planned, and still looking for the place to one day call home.

somehow, the one thing that landed exactly on time was the engagement and future wedding, but even that had nothing to do with the timing.

but now ten years later, I wouldn’t trade the version that actually happened for the one I once wrote down. by @itsfioline
