1. Hug or kiss someone.
Even if it’s family. We can encourage her to say hi or bye, but if she doesn’t want physical affection, I’m not making her do it so someone else doesn’t feel rejected. Her body is hers.

2. Share EVERYTHING she owns.
We’re teaching her how to share, obviously. 😂 But if she’s actively playing with something, I’m not snatching it out of her hands because another kid suddenly wants it. They can wait for a turn.

3. Perform on command. 😂
“Show them what you learned!” “Say the word!” “Dance for grandma!” Sometimes she’s into it, sometimes she looks at me like 😐. If she says no, we move on. She’s a toddler, not our entertainment. 😂

4. Immediately interact with someone just because they’re excited to see her.
Most times she needs a minute to warm up, especially around people she doesn’t see often. I’m not going to call her rude or force her into someone’s arms because an adult expects an immediate reaction.

5. Finish her food just to be “polite.”
If someone made her food and she doesn’t want it or she’s full, I’m not forcing her to eat it because refusing food might offend someone. We can teach gratitude without teaching her to ignore when her body says she’s done.

6. Stop having emotions because we’re in public. 🫠
I’m obviously not letting her do whatever she wants because she’s upset. Boundaries still exist. But if she’s crying because she’s overwhelmed, tired or frustrated, I’m not telling her to stop simply because other people are looking.

7. Be the “easy, well-behaved little girl” all the time. 🎀
I want her to learn manners, kindness and respect. But I don’t want her learning that being a “good girl” means being quiet, agreeable and convenient for everyone around her.

I’m teaching her to be kind and respectful. I’m just not teaching her that being respectful means ignoring her own boundaries to keep adults happy. 🤍

being a mom is one of my favorite things about myself. but so is being ME. 🍸

i can be completely obsessed with my daughter, love my little family, and still love getting dressed up, feeling pretty, chasing my own goals, and being the main character in my own life.

Our first date ALONE in over a year. 🥹🤍
