I remember being 13 years old, convinced that the abuse I endured was all my fault. That I had to carry it quietly in order to survive, and that my story was never meant to be told.

I spent years believing that… then one day I decided I didn’t anymore.

Today I walked into a bookstore and saw my name on a shelf. Not because my story is perfect, nor because I have it all figured out. But because I refused to let shame have the final word.

If you’re carrying something you’ve been told to hide, I wrote this for you.

Transform Your Pain Into Purpose is out now. Link in bio 💙💚

The abolition of “good character” references for convicted offenders of all sexual violence offences is now law in New South Wales.

Today is an historic day for victims and survivors of child sexual abuse and rape.

While we are deeply disappointed that the Greens and the Coalition teamed up in the Upper House to block these changes from extending to domestic violence, murder, and other serious offences, today still marks a major and hard-fought victory.

This was the original ask of the #YourReferenceAintRelevant campaign.

For four years, Jarad Grice and I have fought for one simple truth: victim-survivors should never have to sit in court and hear the person who harmed them described as a “good person”.

That truth has now been recognised in NSW law.

Thank you to the Attorney-General Michael Daley, Premier Chris Minns, the Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Jodie Harrison, and the Minister for Police and Counter-Terrorism Yasmin Catley for backing this reform.

Thank you to every petitioner, every supporter, and every member of the public who stood with us, believed in this campaign, and helped carry it forward.

After four years of fighting, Jarad and I are so proud to see this reform finally become reality.

This win belongs to victim-survivors of sexual violence. taken in Parliament of NSW by @itsharrijames

Women have every reason to be sceptical. Men have every reason to do better.

Eight years of reported allegations and concerns. Who knew, and what did the @australiangreens do about it?

Obviously, it’s not that controversial, but apparently it still needs to be said for the silly men who haven’t quite caught on!

Sure, the presumption of innocence matters, but so does the message the @afl sends to men about accountability for violence against women.

Nick Blakey’s $12 million move to @nmfcofficial is just another reminder that the AFL doesn’t give a fuck about women.

The same misogyny we laugh at on television is used to discredit women when they report sexual violence.

Apparently, misogyny is still a punchline, but holding men accountable is a step too far!!
