9.16.11- 2.6.23 ❤️

I lost him very suddenly to a malignant tumor two years ago. I had never felt a pain like that before and I didn’t know how to deal with it. So I bottled my emotions up and life went on. As a result, I haven’t been able to fully process his loss.

In deciding to make this video, I wanted to share a few moments of his life with everyone — a way for strangers to get a glimpse of him, and a way for friends & family to remember him. But it ended up being so much more. For the first time in two years, I allowed myself to feel the void. To start to understand and process the emotions surrounding his passing.

I wouldn’t say I’m fully healed. Is that even possible? But I am making progress towards learning how to live with this loss without trying to forget it ever happened. Because that’s not fair to Duke.

He was an amazing dog, loved by everyone who met him. A gentle soul who cared more about your happiness than his own. A goofball who showed no shame. A lover of all things he could not have — brownies, chicken wings, and chipmunks. But above all else, he was the greatest best friend you could ask for.
