I’ve helped hundreds of musicians grow on social media in secret over the last two years - and in doing so I’ve reverse engineers my own strategies, formulas and frameworks, and worked out how your favourite guitarists, drummers, bassists, vocalists and bands have been pulling the numbers they do.

I did all of this behind closed doors to make sure my tips and blueprint is valuable…. And the resounding answer was ‘yes it is’. The results so far have been insane - you can see a few in my highlights.

What Instagram wants⬇️

We talk a lot about the big bad algorithm..

And although posting at a time when more of your audience is online is important..

There’s something that Instagram cares about waaaay more..

And that’s CONSISTENCY.

Consider this.

Instagram make money from watch time. It’s in their best interest to keep people on that app.

And although it’s not an all-powerful dude in a tower choosing which accounts to push, their algorithm do sort of work like this.

The algorithm will push musician’s accounts who are consistently uploading at the same time on the same day, every day (or near enough).

They will push creators that are reliable and will reliably bring engaging content to a defined group of people who like the content, and tell Instagram this by engaging with it.

So rather than worrying about whether you should post at 8 or 9pm, just remember to be consistent.

If you’re still reading this, you clearly care enough to put the work in.

Believe in yourself and keep creating. Have more swings of the bat.

The truth ⬇️

Social media isn’t a game of luck.

It’s market research, strategy, creating, optimising, creating, improving, stagnating, staying consistent through the algorithmic plains to enjoy the high of having content do well.

Rinse and repeat. Consistently creating and posting no matter if a video gets 100 views or 100K views.

BUT - it starts with a bulletproof strategy and learning to make super engaging content for a well defined audience who like it… and using an algorithm friendly checklist to make sure platforms know who to put the content in front of.

You’re being lied to⬇️

Followers don’t mean money. Vanity metrics look great, but without genuine connection and a solid business head on your shoulders you simply aren’t going to make money, at least not initially.

We’ve helped creators with 1K followers build income streams and start making money from music, and I still see massive accounts with clearly no idea of how it happened or what to do with that following.

Let’s make life easier ⬇️

Social media rewards consistency, we know that. But it’s not always easy to consistently put out content… at least high quality content we’re actually proud of.

And most musicians I speak to are in their own head about reposting…

“But people will remember I posted this 2 weeks ago”
“Isn’t it going to annoy people seeing it again?”

No. The harsh but beautiful reality hit me when I reposted a video that had millions of views orginally… and no-one mentioned they’d seen it before… and it performed great again.

People aren’t on social media waiting for you to post. They probably won’t notice youve posted the same video before, and even if they do - it’s better to get in front of them with a repost than not at all.

That being said, there are rules. There are levels to this s***.

The harder you work on content, the more it hurts when barely anyone sees it.

This happens to everyone, and it makes the vast majority quit social media.

The issue is social media isn’t an instant gratification game. You need to be committed to the long game. Even if your content is great you need time, consistency to do a few things to get the algorithm to understand who to send your content to.

If you understand and follow the 10 steps you won’t need gratification or vanity metrics to confirm you’re on the right track.

…but there is a ‘checklist’ of algorithm tips and steps to growing, and that’s non-negotiable.

… the secret is that it DOESN’T hate you and not out to get you. Sorry I baited you, but this is important.

But if you just clicked ‘see more’ you probably aren’t favoured by the algorithm and you’re curious about how you can get reliable engagement.

It’s one of my 10 pillars of social media. Yes, it’s a step by step system that even a complete beginner can start and no, algorithm it’s number one. It’s number 6.
