Hi, I'm Jo!

I am 38, live in the South West with my husband and toddler and we have just moved into a new house that we will be renovating for the next few years.

This little corner of Instagram is where I'll be sharing our journey. A mix of home renovations, family life, travel and how you can earn a flexible income from home.

A year ago I saw a mum online, who was earning around her children and building a business around busy family life and realised that I wanted to make a change in my life. The 15 year career I had worked so hard for, just didn’t align or allow me to be the present mum I wanted to be.

Now I build my business alongside real life. I still work part time, but I have been able to earn an additional income that has meant I didn’t need to return to full-time work. I always wanted my own income, financial independence, and career but on my terms. I didn’t want to be constantly juggling 13 weeks school holidays, sick days, and school runs for the next 18 years. I wanted to be the mum at the school gate.

This page is for mums who are wanting to build a flexible income around the chaos of being a parent but also wanting to have their own career and financial independence.

I once saw a Mum online earning an income that worked around her family, not the other way around.

No rushing out the door every morning.
No scrambling for childcare in the holidays.
No asking permission to attend sports days.
Just being there, at the school gates.

I wanted that for me and my family.

I know what its like to have a full time corporate career and then having children and your whole life change over night.

I know the frustration of trying to have a career, earn your own income all whilst being at the school gates, attending sports days, nativity plays and being able to look after your children for the 13 weeks a year school holidays.

✨ THE IKEA PAX WARDROBE HACK THAT SAVED US £££ ✨

We already had the wardrobe frame in place, but getting a carpenter to fit out the entire inside was going to cost a fortune… so we came up with a much more budget-friendly solution!

Here’s what we did 👇🏼

1️⃣ Measured the existing wardrobe frame carefully.
2️⃣ Built a platform to create the right height and base.
3️⃣ Installed IKEA PAX wardrobes on top to create the internal storage. You can create the wardrobe on the IKEA website.
4️⃣ Finished it off to make everything feel built-in and bespoke ✨

The result? A fitted wardrobe look without the price tag of a fully bespoke interior!

If you already have the wardrobe framework in place, this could save you SO much money compared to having everything made from scratch.

Sometimes the best home hacks are the ones that save you thousands without compromising on the finish. 🤎

Renovating a house with a toddler is never going to be the “perfect” time so you just have to make the two work together.

Here are 4 things I’m learning along the way:

🎨 1. Get them involved when you can
If it’s safe and age-appropriate, let them help! Yes, it might take longer, but they love being involved.

🌙 2. Save the jobs that need focus for after bedtime
Anything that requires concentration (or paint that absolutely cannot have tiny fingerprints in it 😂) gets saved for the evening.

⏰ 3. Accept that everything takes longer
A job that would take a couple of hours without a toddler can somehow take a whole day. And that’s okay! We’re renovating around work ana family life and it's accepting the process will be slower.

🔨 4. Make the most of the little pockets of time
You don’t need a whole free day to make progress. 20 minutes here, half an hour there… it all adds up.

We’re slowly renovating our whole house, one room at a time, and I’m learning to embrace the slower pace rather than stressing about how long everything takes.

How to paint perfect stripes 🎨

If you want crisp, professional-looking stripes, the secret is actually in the prep.

1. Work out the proportions first.
Before you put a single bit of tape on the wall, measure the whole room and work out how many stripes you want. Then calculate the stripe width so the pattern feels intentional and balanced across the space.

2. Use the right tape.
I swear by yellow FrogTape Delicate Surface. It has a lower adhesion and is specifically designed for freshly painted surfaces and decorative painting.

3. Paint your base colour first.
Get your wall colour on and let it dry properly before taping. FrogTape recommends at least 24 hours before applying the delicate-surface tape to fresh paint.

4. Tape your stripes.
Measure carefully, mark your lines, use a laser level and press the tape down really well along the edges.

5. Here’s the trick for NO bleed 👇🏼
Before painting your stripe colour, paint another coat of your base wall colour over the tape. This seals the edges of the tape so your stripe colour can't sneak underneath.

6. Paint your stripe colour.
Do two coats, allowing the first to dry according to your paint instructions.

7. Peel the tape while the final coat is still wet.
Slowly pull the tape away at a 45° angle.

Next up, new door and time to fill the room with fun things.

A family holiday where you actually get to enjoy the holiday too… 👀

Just a 2.5-hour flight from the UK, this hotel has genuinely thought of everything when it comes to families — without making the whole experience feel overly complicated or “kid-focused”.

Because sometimes the little things make the BIGGEST difference:

✨ Pottys, toilet seats, nappy bins & stair gates already in your apartment
✨ Playgrounds right outside the restaurants
✨ Indoor play areas in the restaurants, with dedicated staff to play with and supervise the kids while you eat. So if they want to get down from the table… you can actually sit and finish your meal in peace 🙌
✨ Buggy-friendly ramps instead of having to tackle endless stairs
✨ Colouring books & cuddly teddies waiting for the kids on arrival
✨ Kids’ swimming pools right next to every main pool, so everyone gets to enjoy pool time
