hi new facesssss👋🏾🫶🏾

i decided it’s time for another introduction of the girl behind these squares!

so hi! im kaylan👋🏾

I’m a
daughter, sister and friend
1st gen Jamaican American born + bred in Miami

I love Jesus. I knew of Him since I was young, but it wasn’t until a few years ago that He met me, flipped my life upside down, and changed me for the better.

I have a background in the corporate world, but as of recently moved to California to live a pretty counter-cultural life as a full time missionary with an organization called @circuitriders. I literally get to spend my days reaching my generation with the gospel. It’s the craziest, most stretching joy.

outside of that, I love to admire nature, be creative, and have even taken up a liking for cooking!

honestly having this space and these squares to share snippets of my dash (ie the space that lies between my birth date and end date) is pretty surreal. & the fact that you chose to follow along is equally as crazy.

but if you’re here, I’d love to get to know you better, and hope you’ll enjoy getting to see little bts snippets of everything I get up to + create! by @itskayco

still trying to find words for this weekend…

nearly three years ago, a small group of us gathered to talk about the possibility of a national conference. not an idea any one of us created. but one God began whispering.

over two years years of planning
countless meetings
so many emails
fundraising campaigns
calls
late nights
dog memes
and prayer times later…

over 1000 (mostly young) people from across the nation (& even a few other countries!!) gathered together for two full days for what i can only describe as a commissioning.

i never would have imagined when I went in faith to California that God would use me to help plan a national conference, much less oversee the marketing and communications, and stage manage the actual event. but God.

I’ll be processing this weekend for a while. and we will be talking about what God did in the room for generations.

thank you Jesus for gathering your children together. thank you for birthing @blackvoicesmvmt and allowing me to serve alongside the most incredible team. thank you to every person who flew out to serve these last few days and every servant leader at 2819 who served their guts out this weekend. thank you for family - new and old.

my body may be weary, but my soul is so so filled. there’s no greater privilege than reaching my generation with the gospel and training them to live missionally. until all have heard.

shoutout @macaylabisher @elizabethdbeard @chiedozieualpha for the insane conf photos taken in 2819 Church by @itskayco

SAVE + SHARE!!

The Brookhurst Farmers Market, part of the Dwelling Place Food Pantry network by Dwelling Place Church is open most Saturday’s (dependent on weather and closed on/near some holidays).

This farmers market model food distribution pantry is free with no appointment necessary. The farmers market runs from 9-10:30am, with guests typically showing up around an hour in advance to begin lining up. The market takes place outside the Brookhurst Community Center at 2271 Crescent Ave, Anaheim, CA 92801.

They also offer the Dwelling Place Food Pantry most Mondays and Thursdays for guests to shop like a normal grocery store for items that fit their family’s needs. This food pantry is located at a separate location (5340 La Palma Anaheim, CA 92807).

Appointments are released one month at a time on the second Friday of the month for that pantry and fill quickly. If you are unable to get an appointment; keep trying as you may be able to find a cancellation.

For information on both the Brookhurst Farmers Market and the Dwelling Place Food Pantry, or to volunteer, go to dwellingplacefoodpantry.com for more details.

Especially with SNAP benefits in jeopardy, resources like this are so so important to share! And also to volunteer + support! If you yourself are in need of ways to help make ends meet, save this information and/or please reach out! I’d love to do whatever I can with the little I have. If you feel helpless and don’t know what to do, volunteer at your local food pantry, donate if you’re able (monetarily or in-kind, asking what they need urgently in advance). There are so so many horrible things happening around the world. Here’s one way to make an impact to those in need - potentially in your backyard.

Note: No guests were filmed. All volunteers gave their consent to be recorded. I do not personally attend Dwelling Place Anaheim. taken in Brookhurst Community Center by @itskayco

girl who doesn’t drink coffee but loves coffee shops 🫱🏾‍🫲🏻 housemates who love coffee and want to turn the garage into a coffee shop 🤣

it’s funny how dreams take shape in community—how someone else’s passion can stir something in you.
maybe that’s what i love about living in community. in fact, it’s hard to imagine not living this way to some extent for the rest of my life. i genuinely believe it’s how we were meant to live. fully interconnected.

for years, i lived a very independent life. i told myself it was my boss babe season—that i was focusing on myselffffff. but truthfully, i was self-protecting. moving to a new city during covid made friendship hard, not to mention I realized I wasn’t that great at it. so i learned to do things alone. to stay guarded, and to try to romanticize being by myself allllll the time when I desperately wanted community.

but lately, God’s been showing me that we were never meant to do life that way!!! community isn’t a bonus to life—it’s the design. growth, healing, and even joy are meant to happen in shared spaces.

and maybe that’s what this little garage coffee shop represents—an open door, a shared dream, and the kind of life that’s better brewed together. by @itskayco

something i’m realizing lately: discipline is one of the most vulnerable things you can practice.

every small choice—whether to pray, move, rest, or show up—reveals what you actually believe about God. for a while, i let how i felt decide what i did. even in sickness.

and hear me out: i love a good 80/20, or a treat after a long day. i love and will still eat burgers, and mac n cheese and take naps and be aware of how my body is doing that day, esp as someone with health stuff.

but the version of me fifty years from now—the one who’s still faithful, still soft, still rooted in prayer—is being built right here, in the quiet choices of today.

a life of intention and prayer is built long before anyone sees it. and im committed to taking messy action to be intentional about the type of person i end up becoming. because not making a choice and not having vision is still making a choice. except i want to partner with Jesus in who He wants and knows i can be, rather than doing nothing and hoping i end up alright.

so here it is: the start of my messy journey as i discover the adventure of my life between the dash. and hopefully the irl journey of internally and externally becoming the type of person God wants me to be.🤍 by @itskayco
