POSTS STORIES REELS

what I have been listening to at work 🎃✨

• The Poisoners Cabinet podcast: Hosted by @sineadhannacraic and her lovely friend Nick. They drink cocktails and talk about murders (historical murders) ☠️ I don’t always enjoy true crime but this feels more like a silly history lesson! (Sinead also makes amazing spooky book content!)

• The September House: A couple moves into a beautiful home that is *very* haunted. This book was a bit silly, but the themes really hit home. A different take on a haunted house story! I quite enjoyed it 👻 🏚️

• Pretty Little Liars: I have been rewatching the show & reading the books for the first time. The show is a wild ride, but the books ramp up the drama! They didn’t age the best but I am enjoying seeing this story from a different angle. ☎️

Some books that caught my eye in the store rather than online. love going to the store and seeing what I naturally gravitate towards. Sometimes the endless recommendations online can be overwhelming.
Let me know if you have read any of these and if they are worth picking up! I📖📚 by @itskittykyu

i’m coming out of hibernation 🍂🕸️

I am so ready for spooky season!! I put up all my decorations and I am filled with joy (:

unrelated, I just uploaded my first reading vlog! in it I read:
• To Shape a Dragons Breath by Moniquill Blackgoose
• Legendary by Stephanie Garber
• The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward
I hated one of those… to find out which one, check out my new channel on YouTube itskittykyu (*kitty chronicles*), link in my bio (:

“if I stay put I start to think.”

I read 2 books by Catoriona Ward this year and I have been so impressed! If you like twists and turns in your horror, I highly recommend Looking Glass Sound and The Last House on Needless Street. I was confused half the time I was reading these, but once I was finished I could not get these stories out of my mind.
I recommend going into these blind, but if you need, check the trigger warnings (especially for The Last House on Needless Street).

Looking Glass Sound is a great book to transition from summer into Autumn 🌊🌥️

☆彡 I officially have a new hobby!

I used to play Pokémon TCG as a kid. I recently was reintroduced to TCG by my partner.. who showed me the amazing art and community was very much still alive. I feel like a little kid anytime I go to the store for new cards! We recently went to our first show and it was so fun (besides a few scummy sellers). ✨

I want to keep this hobby as affordable as I can so my goal was to only buy cards under $10. To do this I mostly looked for Japanese cards, which are actually better quality. I did get LOTS of cards… but only because I went 2 days and I wanted a nice foundation for my collection! I do also collect the common cards!

ALSO you may have noticed my name changed from “pixelkitty_” to “itskittykyu.” mostly inspired by one of my favorite Pokémon Mimikyu (:

YES, I am very late to wrapping up January…
but I decided I want to *try* to do reading wrap-ups this year (full reviews on my goodreads, storygraph, & fabel)

₊˚⊹ The Missing of the Clairdelune - loved this more than the first one!! this series has a magic to it that I can’t explain.

₊˚⊹ A Study in Drowning - I wrote a looong review of this one… I was extremely disappointed. I am not good at recognizing bad writing, so I was so surprised to find one of my most anticipated books was written so badly… sorry to those who love it, I truly wish I did too 😩(cannot believe she said “cheeks” 54x throughout the book) (-1 from my 2026 tbr)

₊˚⊹ Ghost Radio - great concept, just didn’t feel sucked into the story or characters. loved that it took place in Houston though!

₊˚⊹ The Floating World - this was great!! reminded me of Arcane. I need to see more people talk about this one 🙂‍↕️

₊˚⊹ Principles of Communism - finally been having the itch to read more non-fiction and decided to delve into theory. this is a great condensed version of the Communist manifesto.

₊˚⊹ The Starless Sea - another anticipated disappointment. okay thats dramatic, it wasn’t bad, just not as good as I wanted it to be. I loved the beginning, but kept waiting for more… I was left unsatisfied. ): (-2 from my 2026 tbr)

lmk if you have any thoughts on these books (: ₊˚⊹ by @itskittykyu

of course my spooky spirit is kicking in right before October is over!!!! good thing I consider all the “ber” months a time to embrace the macabre. winter time was actually peak scary story time for many peoples back when the night was only lit by fire… so don’t put down those horror books yet my friends! 🎃🐈‍⬛

semi-sad news: my pumpkin lights finally DIED after 4-5 years of use 😔 I can’t find any that look the same and those were my favorite decoration *sigh*

Latin Horror 🌀🪾

me and my partner picked up some books from the library, most of them consist of Latin horror books!

we both read Fever Dream in ONE day (me in one sitting) and it was absolutely a Fever Dream… I have the tendency to misread things, and of course I misread something at the beginning of this book which added to the confusion that the book already had lol. regardless, I was enthralled the entire time. afterwards, me and my partner stayed up late digesting the book, picking apart the meanings, and coming up with our own theories. It was a very satisfying read and I highly recommend if you like weird horror!!! 4.25 ⭐️

I have been meaning to read Jawbone and anything by Mariana Enriquez for a while now, so hopefully I will get to those!

you feel that… must be the season of the witch 🍂☕️
September means spooky season is in session! 🕷️

when September hits I suddenly get overwhelmed by the long list of fall books on my tbr. this year, I am trying to avoid the worms in my brain telling me to *consume moooore*. instead, I want to feel deeply immersed in every haunted cemetery and fall forest I read about.

Of course I will still read 5 books at once (bc I am who I am)!! The witching hour is my first soirée into Anne Rice’s novels. the vibes? amazing! the writing? impeccable! the pacing….. could be faster. I will definitely be taking my time reading this 1000 page tome. if you read this, let me know if it is worth it!

I just finished Paladins Grace by the lovely T. King Fisher (who has yet to disappoint me). I enjoyed my time in this dark, cozy, mysterious, romance. The characters were adorably quirky! However, I went into this not knowing it was mostly a romance. I would have liked more mystery, but that’s my fault ✋ I definitely recommend!!

$hi hi 🕯️💼 it’s been a while! I deleted instagram from my phone and it has been very peaceful! but fall is among us (IN MY OPINION), and I have begun to miss posting here again. I always get too caught up in how my feed looks, despite the face that literally no one cares but me 😅. but I miss sharing my hobbies so I will go ahead and share once more! these pictures are from a gorgeous bookshop that I actually wrote a short excerpt on but I am too shy to share /.\ . I will however be slowly sharing the tons of pictures I took! 📸📚 .𖥔 ݁ ˖. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁.𖥔 ݁ ˖.𖥔 ݁ ˖. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁.𖥔 ݁ ˖ 🏷️ #bookshop #bookstore #booksonbooks by @itskittykyu$
