I put out an album this year and feel pretty good about it, despite it not “blowing up” right away and what not. In fact, I am at peace with where I am now in my journey. For a long time I wasn’t internally, and had been journeying out from my internal rat race in this matrix.To be a bit more specific, a few years ago I was relayed a question asked of me by a prominent figure over at Virgin Music who asked “Does Lani even want to be an artist?”. Intially That felt like a gut punch because I thought all of my efforts were being dismissed and undermined, but that feeling actually pointed me to one of my greatest blessings yet. The truth about who I am. Because I wasn’t putting out music fr or showing up like how I sold myself to them (which is where I went wrong to begin with).
The belief that I must somehow convince people to work with me was burrowed deep within me and led me down an pathway where sure I could take credit (and still not feel it was mine) but never feel “@ home” anywhere with anyone, because Id have to keep proving my worth to em. However now 3 years later, I realized I don’t want to be an artist, In the traditional sense. I’m a writer first this is my first joy, then music, then performing. So thank you Ma’am for asking that question. Now I’m in a position spiritually, physically, and economically to live and create in alignment with my deepest being.

In Dec of 2024 my life change forever
My wife and I had been separated for about 4 or 5 months by this point.
@chandlerdmoore invited me over to @studio.jogs write with him/them.
Chandler was already playing the keys, and as I walked into the room my heart began pouring out a sound of yearning to come out. That later became the following words:

This is my first song without any sort of autotune/pitch correction (which I am quite pleased with). It was born from a conversation with my friend @isaiah_ade encouraging me to “sing ugly bro” as we discussed my career and the space I was in regarding the music I was desiring to make. I’ve certainly struggled with insecurity around performance so to put this out, is too an act of defiance against that doubt. by @itslanirose

“confessing again” was the original name for this record. I was at the crossroads where the need for acceptance / approval clashed violently against my desire for authenticity and freedom. The illusion I believed was that they were in conflict. Why, because I hadn’t yet experienced inner honesty about the failure I was believing I was. This log in my eye was the life raft of my heart, one which carried me down the river of inadequacy. From 2:00-onward I did my best to express how I felt God showed up for me. Both lyrically and sonically.

To: Whom I Belong is Out Now!
This piece in particular was made primarily in 2021-2022. May 7th 2021 a week before To: Keep You From Hurting Me Was released, I gave my life to Christ like never before. Since then many changes have occurred both internally and externally. This album captures key conversations, thoughts, and experiences/feelings I’ve had along this journey with God. May this be a blessing to you, and please share it with friends and loved ones. Much love ~ LR

I wanted to quickly shout out to my producers/writers/engineer/mastering engineer by putting a photo of them in the slide. Go show them some love. So wild to have such an incredible response to my first project. It means a lot for me to know there are other people out there in this world (YOU) who actually care to listen and encourage me to make music the way I want to make music. So THANK YOU very much.
