My new album called EARTHLING is out now 🦓

I really made this album as a journey; as a tool to help you travel spiritually and mentally without moving; to take you through all the ecosystems on this beautiful planet. Each track is blending to a different recording I took from different places around the world from London, to the Mexican desert, to the Amazon Rainforest. To connect it all my Aunty Clara from Dominica 🇩🇲 spoke about what it was like to come over to Britain from the caribbean colonies. Where did you travel to when you listened? What’s your favourite track so far?

Every living thing on this planet is an Earthling, not just us so that why I put this photograph of a Zebra I took on a trip to South Africa years back on the front cover. It was important it wasn’t a human.

I’m screaming for the understanding that climate change & loss of biodiversity have directly come from colonialism (and greed + capitalism, it’s two ideologies) As black, brown & POC #diaspora we have a unique position to play in being connected to the places on the front line of #climatechange and helping connect the global north to the global south for a nature filled future on this planet; standing up for & spreading indigenous knowledge that suffered from the same colonial hand as we did to bring us back to living in harmony with nature.

I can’t believe I finally get to say these words fam…
My new album EARTHLING is out now! 🦓🦓🦓🦓
🇩🇲⛰️🌳🌍🖤

Over these last 4 years making this album has been through all the highs & lows: being broke, love, heartbreak, pain, stress, joy, climate change, political turmoil, London winters to the aliveness of the Amazon rainforest. No cap this album has been with me through it all & it’s in the music. I wanted to produce everything cose this is the most me I’ve ever been on a record & the proudest I’ve ever been of my music.

My ancestry is from Dominica 🇩🇲 but I poured in the story for all of us diaspora, how colonialism tried to separate us from the places we’re proud to be from, the flags we rep at carnival (& our hinge profiles) and our connection the the nature there. I’m screaming for the understanding that climate change & loss of biodiversity have directly come from colonialism (& greed + capitalism, it’s two ideologies) - particularly talking our role to play in helping the world realise this as diaspora in the global north & standing up for & spreading indigenous knowledge to bring us back to living in harmony with nature. We can be the bridge to that future because we connect the global north to the global south. I am a nature geek; the biodiversity of this planet is the waviest, coolest ting & no one can tell me otherwise. Every living thing is an Earthling on this planet that’s why I put the cover as a Zebra 🦓 not a human (gassed to say I took that photograph).

We need to relearn how to be better EARTHLINGs, so go out, sit in some wild, put on your headphones & blast this album wherever you are in the world & deep the message; us young people, we gonna change the future for the better and this is the soundtrack.

Music and nature is the same; it's all about harmony.

What happens when the loudest noise is the absence of nature?

@itslouisvi is on a listening revolution, stopping to hear the sounds the body has forgotten: the blackbird, the wren, a dawn chorus on the edge of the city.

Even in the UK, one of the most nature-depleted countries in Europe, stopping to listen is an act of resistance.

This film is part of Planet Health Stories, a series in collaboration with @bupa exploring the inseparable bond between human and planetary health.

8 years ago today, 15th June 2018. My first solo album SUGAR LIKE SALT.

My version of Yin and Yang

You can’t tell the difference until you’re close enough to taste which is which…

… it often appears there’s salty moments in life and there’s sweet, but actually the sweet ones can be false or make you complacent or the salty ones could be the harsh lesson you needed to make the change to get you to where you need to be. So the initial view that sugar is indeed looking like salt, is in fact on the deepest measure also true.

The salty leads to the sweet and the sweet can lead to the salty events in life. It’s all just experience of living so whatever we’re going through, individually, collectively right now, the the terrible things; the opposite beauty is close behind because the universe always balances the sugar and the salt, if you show it trust.

It’s been a really life by lifing two years for me but I promise I’ve got A LOT of new music to drop

An ode to my local oaks…

Late spring, when the these oaks, both of who’s explosion of green, so many times has this park seen,
One over 450 times, the other 300
open up their branches and trunks to bees, woodpeckers, beetles, squirrels above and below shaded people…
To starlings, Martins, cuckoos, swallows and swifts and other birds that have flown thousands of miles to feel the familiar safe feel of the oak trees bark beneath their feet - do they sigh relief when they feel the barks relief like a picture to each leaf?

A thousand thousand lives, have these oaks made gentler

Not a tree but a universe, a destination worth revisiting, each time I rest my hand on one; it’s always warm, whether summer or winter.

Just another person like me…

they just move a little slower but live and touch lives deep

It was an honour to share the stage with @ryankohneco & Sharon Johnson @bellwethersgroup for @sxswlondon about “Can climate change unite us?”

Such an interesting topic and in short, the answer is yes and making sure people understand “Perfection is the killer of the good”, culture, business, everything can move out of this world of perpetual growth and start prioritising people and planet.

Today I just typed “beach” into my photos search; and I noticed I seem to be smiling in every single one. TO ALL MY FOLLOWERS, THIS IS YOUR SIGNAL TO REST AND KNOW YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE PRODUCTIVE ALLLLLL THE TIME. The moments we remember, where we glow, are our moments where we just be; (and nature helps 😜)

It reminded me; I’ve been so busy lately I’ve taken zero time for myself to do what I’m telling people to do all the time; sit still for 10mins and listen to the nature around you. I owe you all an apology; a huge number of you now support and follow me and I’ve had to taken a bit of a pause from posting and updating because so much has been going on, so sorry my people dem.

But relearning how to listen is still the mission, and I realised the joy, and peace I see in my face in these photos is what people described at my @natureaintaluxury exhibition a few months ago.

It’s funny how the people that experienced your own art, are sometimes the ones that remind you most of what it meant. Beyond grateful for the beautiful words on the last slide: may we all feel so at peace that we feel like floating, especially in this mental times on this spaceship call Earth; creating peace is revolutionary.

P.s. if someone wants to translate the Japanese post it note for me please I’d be forever grateful!
