Today my princess Sarai turns 1.

I’ve always known the blessing of being a father, but something about Sarai has changed me in ways I didn’t expect. She came into my life and somehow made me calmer, more patient, and more aware of the kind of man I want to be every single day.

Even before she was born, she had a personality of her own. When she was in her mom’s stomach, she would punch me every time I touched my own woman’s belly. And whenever she heard Oblee, she would start dancing in there like a trench baby. During ultrasounds, she was always hiding her face from the camera like she already knew she didn’t want the spotlight yet. Came out mean mugging everybody with the cutest lips and the brightest eyes.

Watching her grow this past year has been one of the greatest joys of my life. The way she laughs, the way she reaches for me, the way she looks at me, it’s a kind of love that humbles you.

And she hasn’t wasted any time growing up either. Sitting up strong at just 4 months, holding her own bottle at 6 months, and walking around the house by 9 months like she runs the place already. Then yesterday, the day before her birthday, hearing her say her own name Abeke like she knows exactly who she is.

Sarai she isn’t afraid of anything. She’s fearless, bold, and already ready to fight the world if she has to. I can already tell she’s going to be strong.

Every time I look at her, my heart skips a little because she looks so much like David and acts just like him…

She’ll probably never understand just how much she’s changed her daddy, but she did. She made me softer, stronger, and more grateful all at the same time.

Dear David,

Took us a while to post, feelings been scattered man but we owe you this. You left a void that can’t be ever filled, From your smile and enthusiasm man, met a lot of people on your 20 years here man and we all gathered to celebrate you day 🖤 Losing you has not been an easy battle, each day is a new battle we face with ourselves and sadness of the thought of you .. happy your in a better place but hurt that it had to be so soon 💔 We’ve been fighting and maintaining but none the less we lose to our deep feelings about you .. We loved you dearly & unanimously wish for more time. Wish for the strength to proceed with more birthdays & get together to honor you my friend. If Heaven had a voicemail, we would tell you that we love you, what you’ve missed and what’s going on. Your missing a lot man it’s been a lot of growth and progress that took place in your absence that you’d love and smile about, We came together today on your birthday to share what we missed, what we would say to you & just share energies all for you 💙 Happy Heavenly Brother David 🕊️ Long Live, But Forever Living On 🫶🏾🚀

May 7th 2021 I lost one of the closest person I had in my life and my life was desolate and full of depression. May his soul rest in peace. But God changed my life around when he blessed this beautiful, happy, graceful girl into my life. For those who don’t know her due was supposed to be May 7th 2022 it was God’s doing, but she came a week earlier. She brings joy and happiness to my life and my life has more purpose to it. Adaora you’re 4 years old already. Time flies😩. I remember when you had just started walking right when you turned 1 and a time when the only words you could say were dada and mama. Now we can’t get you to sit down, and you’re always running around and jumping all over the place. We’re now able to have conversation about nothing and everything all at the same time and it amazes me. Happy Birthday my baby💙 I pray that you continue to grow in God’s hands. Safe to say my baby had a great 1st birthday. Yes I’m one of those dads who will sit there and make a whole balloon garland for his princess, no shame at all.
