Yeeeeeears ago, I wrote a song about who I believe was one of the most inspiring figures to have come out of Aotearoa - Nancy Wake.

Born in Pōneke in 1912, Nancy would go on to be one of the most decorated servicewomen in WW11 history. Dubbed the ‘White Mouse’ from the Gestapo, Nancy had an innate ability to evade Nazi servicemen and provided important information and service to the French resistance in her as an SOE agent.

Nancy was disgusted with the brutality of the gestapo and the cruelty of the Nazi party. She had a strong sense of human rights and was driven to push herself beyond the limit to assist in the downfall of Hitler and his party.

Nancys story stuck with me after reading her biography published by @peter_fitzsimons ( God it’s good, you need to read it )

I couldn’t help but feel inspired to enter my song about Nancy into the @countrymusichonours and am chuffed that I get to be another small part of bringing her story back into the light. Especially now, I think she would be shocked at the brutality and violence so mercilessly being committed today. Her values were so easily celebrated yet it’s not lost on me how the same isn’t so for people fighting for those who have been left in the dust by the leaders in this world. Nancy would be irate and would never have turned her back, she would have fought the good fight!

SO with that being said, if you want to read a book that could change your outlook on life and if you’re ever worried that you’re stepping out of line to help vulnerable people , be like Nancy and never relent in your love and compassion for others in this world 💖💖💖

✨This is an unreleased song but hopefully one day soon, I’ll be able to put it down and out for ya’ll xxx by @itsmillytabak
