We love the pure vibes of the 70s and are so happy that one of our favorite people on the planet, @elise_crigar ( who also designed our @itsnotaboutpretty book) brings it back full circle for photographer @ianloganphoto ‘s vision. 🩷🛹⚡️ Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word, 70s Skate, skater girl by @itsnotaboutpretty
In honor of International Women’s Day here’s to the girls that came before me in the 60s and early 70s, that skated with me in the mid 70s to the early 80s, and to those that came after us and continue to make us proud. 🙏🏼 This group of women in skateboarding spans from the 1960s to the 1980s (all of us have been inducted into the @skateboardinghalloffame ) and we all paved the way for generations to come. 🩷 All of us skated before there was prize money, big contests and most of the time we were the only girl skating with all boys. It never stopped us. Skateboarding was renegade, rebellious, and definitely NOT mainstream. But today… I see you girls and women out there shining bright, skateboarding around the world, competing in the Olympics and encouraging even more girls to skate. I’m so very proud of all of you and I feel lucky to get to share your accomplishments, videos, achievements and stories. You are making #herstory and I’m honored to watch it all unfold. 🛹🙌 Happy International Wonen’s Day 🎉 Photos @ianloganphoto ✔️ SHOF Women at this event - Laura Thornhill-Caswell, Robin Logan, Cindy Whitehead, Judi Oyama, Edie Robertson, Gale Webb, Jana Payne-Booker, Lynn Kramer, Jen O’Brien, Anita Tessensohn Sanford, Colleen Boyd-Turner, Di Dootson-Rose, Laurie Turner Demott, Leilani Kiyabu-Glasheen, Sally Anne Miller, Tina Trefethen by @itsnotaboutpretty
To all the girls that skate 🛹 “People should embrace individuality - in themselves and in others. I hope that we’ll all encourage future generations to go further than we’ve gone. That’s the key - we need to be the women that embrace other women - not think that they are the competition. Collectively together, we are so much stronger” 👯‍♀️ I’m skateboarding through an abandoned motel on Sunset Blvd that was painted all white for an art insulation. ❄️ The image of me skating and the quote I gave were part of a piece South Bay Magazine did on me and GIrl is NOT a 4 Letter Word awhile back. 🛹 Photo @ianloganphoto by @itsnotaboutpretty

It’s Women’s History Month 🎉 . Many thanks to @sitesexhibitions @amhistorymuseum @smithsonianwomen highlighting @girlisnota4letterword and why we do this. Catch the Girlhood Exhibit now - details below. 🩷🛹 • 👇👇👇 . Cindy Whitehead grew up in Southern California where she aspired to be a professional skateboarder but found few female role models. In 2013 she designed this prototype and founded the brand “Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word” to make girls more visible in a male-dominated sport! Cindy’s story is one of many that is highlighted in our “Girlhood (It’s complicated)” traveling exhibition on view now @mnhs.info! The exhibition was co-developed with our colleagues @amhistorymuseum and engages audiences in timely conversations about women’s history and women’s issues through unexpected stories of girlhood in the United States. #GirlhoodHistory #cindywhitehead #GirlhoodItsComplicated #Skateboard #Smithsonian #girlisnota4letterword by @itsnotaboutpretty

I’m so proud and honored that our Southern California @girlisnota4letterword team riders volunteered their time to be part of this PSA for @paliskates with @avrillavigne and other rad skaters that aired on the Grammys tonight. 🛹 . You can support @paliskates via Paliskates.net to buy the cool merch you see here. 🩷 Paliskates is the longest female owned skate shop (25 years) so please go support Erica 🙏 .
