I’m thinking about how this time, five years ago, we did not have a xmas tree up, & we didn’t have a single one of these ornaments! 😱 I love this collection of special memories that we’ve accumulated since December of 2020, found in dusty bins in antique stores, gifted to us from friends, or picked up from rather suspicious basements via Facebook Marketplace. I can’t wait to see what this collection looks like, in five more years. Merry Christmas Eve. I wish all of you love, warmth, joy, & lots of ornaments! 🎄🎅🏻✨

Details in the library. (I never did steam the bow garland so…..maybe next year. 🎀😬) Who’s coming over to read, flip through art/design books, gossip, & drink cocktails on the couch?! 🥂 by @itsnotjuststuff

We’ve been collecting art—mostly vintage, all originals, all hand-painted by a real human—for our entryway for about five years. Sometimes, the phrase “gallery wall” feels a little live-love-laugh, word-art, prints-from-Target to me. But I’ve gotta say, I don’t think the floor-to-ceiling, salon-style hang will ever *not* be chic. (Now, just don’t tell my husband that I want to wallpaper the three-story stairwell…..) Today was the first snowfall of the season! I love Zsa Zsa the xmas tree always, but *espesh* on a cozy, snowy day. Here are some closeups of some favorite ornaments. Some are new, some are vintage, some are legitimate antiques, I even believe one or two are haunted 👻, & I love them all. 😩🎄❄️

A very cozy & tea-filled first of December at home. (A home that has been decorated for xmas since October 31…) 🎄🎅🏻✨

I’ve been dreaming of decorating the library for Christmas since it was the empty beige box we began with (on the last slide). I’ve been running a bit behind this season—I usually put our primary tree up on Halloween!—but Gigi the Santa tree has been up for over a week now, & aside from needing about two hundred more ornaments, I’m so happy with how she looks. (Feeling a bit neurotic & might need to steam the garland from sitting wrinkled in storage… 🎀) Happy holidays from my cozy xmas palace! 🎄🎅🏻✨

My husband & I found this pair of darling ceramic Italian leopards, but didn’t really need two of them, so I decided to give one to Grandma. I told her they needed matching names, something like Beavis & Butthead & she raised her hand, cut me off, & shouted, “I call Beavis!” So now, we have Butthead the leopard on our credenza, & she has Beavis on her cocktail table [swipe to see him in her home]. I loved the leopard anyway, but now I extra-love him, knowing that Grandma’s got the matching one that she sees every day. I suppose I find beauty & sentimentality equally important in the things I fill my house with. 🐆🖤 by @itsnotjuststuff

Some not-very-high-stakes things occupying a lot of mental real estate: I think I’m in the mood to wallpaper this powder room. That was always the vision, & I’ve loved the paint color, but the room feels…a bit boring to me right now. 😩 So, I’m searching for wallpaper that won’t detract from the mirror or faucet, but will feel not-boring. 🦢🪞🌸 Also, I’ve been a pretty diehard Reverence by Aēsop girlie, but buying a bottle of the Diptyque exfoliating wash? Game changer. It’s beyond. 🫧 [Swipe to see the before. 🥵] by @itsnotjuststuff

Our home has a bit of trouble regulating the temperature on hot summer days [& cold winter nights] but it’s the perfect excuse to spend an entire Monday on the couch in the library, which is always the coolest room in the house. It’s so chilly down here that I need a blanket & a hot cup of tea! 🐆☕️ by @itsnotjuststuff

I’m always thinking about this before & after. If there’s one thing I’m gonna change, it’s a tragic beige box. This powder room off of our library is now my pride & joy. The faucet? The mirror? The wallpaper? I could weep. 🐬🪞💦 by @itsnotjuststuff

I’ve always had a penchant for collecting. When I was a child, it was (tragically) Disney snow globes & Beanie Babies. 😩 As a teenager, it was Playbills from the musicals I’d seen. As an adult, it has been original art, Christmas ornaments, & most recently, matchbooks from special bars & restaurants we’ve been to. The growing collection spans from my hometown of San Diego, to the DC/Maryland/Virginia area we live in now, to some fabulous weekends in New York or Philadelphia or Toronto, all small mementos of delicious—or, sometimes, not-so-delicious—meals. & just because smoking has thrillingly fallen out of fashion doesn’t mean that matchbooks should‼️🕯️
[The @leswanfrenchdiner matches in my swan dish are my current faves &, my god, was that a spectacular meal! 🦢] by @itsnotjuststuff

I often think of that Kim Cattrall quote: “I don’t want to be in a situation for even an hour where I’m not enjoying myself.” Or, Parker Posey in The White Lotus saying, “I just don’t think, at this age, I’m meant to life an uncomfortable life.”

I turn 35 in a few weeks, & I have been feeling those quotes, *heavily*. I want to be comfortable. I want to enjoy myself. & if those things aren’t happening…please count me out. I’ll be here, in my library. by @itsnotjuststuff
